Liquid Amino Diet

 By Mizpah Matus B.Hlth.Sc(Hons)

liquid-amino-dietThe Liquid Amino Diet plan combines a low glycemic diet with specially formulated “Amino Diet Plus” drops.

This program claims to produce rapid weight loss, elimination of abdominal fat and improved metabolism.

Dieters are promised weight losses between 15 and 30 pounds in just one month.

Liquid Amino Diet Basics

The Liquid Amino Diet involves the use of “Amino Diet Plus” drops, which contain a combination of homeopathic remedies and amino acids.

Creators of the Liquid Amino Diet assert that each ingredient carries out a very specific function that speeds up weight loss. The drops are claimed to increase metabolism, enhance fat-burning and support the functions of the liver, thyroid, and digestive system.

Along with taking the drops you will follow a low glycemic diet that consists of three phases, with three meals and two snacks each day. Ideally you should eat a large breakfast with each meal becoming gradually smaller throughout the day.

Eating after dinner is not permitted because this disrupts your hormones and slows your progress.

Before commencing with phase one there is a two-day preparation phase where you eat eggs, dairy, olive oil, avocados and nuts. You also start taking supplements of omega-3 fish oil. Dieters are encouraged to eat some of their favorite foods during this time because they will not be allowed once you commence the diet.

The Three Phases of the Liquid Amino Diet

Phase 1 is the main weight loss phase of the diet with a 1000 calorie daily allowance. You will commence a low-glycemic diet that includes lean protein, beans, vegetables, fruit and healthy fats and also start using the drops.

This phase can last between 30 and 90 days, depending on how much weight you have to lose. If you still want to lose more weight after 90 days you can come back to phase 1 once you have completed phase 2.

Phase 2 continues for three weeks and its purpose is to prevent your body going into starvation mode, which could lead to reduced metabolism. You don’t take the drops during this phase.

The daily calorie allowance increases to 1500 and more variety is allowed. You can consume small portions of whole-grain bread and oatmeal in addition to the foods in the phase 1 plan.

Phase 3 is the final phase where you maintain your weight loss by following a healthy lifestyle. You can gradually increase your intake of sugars and starches while eating the amount of calories that is appropriate for you.

The liquid amino drops are only taken during phase 1. However, dieters should take a vitamin supplement, fish oil capsules, and a scoop of protein powder in all three phases.

Costs and Expenses

A 30-day supply (1 bottle) of Liquid Amino Diet is $97 with discounts offered if you order two bottles or more.

Each bottle comes with the “Amino Diet Guidebook”, an oral syringe for accurate measurement, and free email and phone support.

  • Produces rapid results.
  • High intake of protein and vegetables helps to reduce appetite.
  • Recipes are available on the Liquid Amino Diet website.
  • Dieters have access to health coaches via email and phone.

  • Extremely restrictive and requires the elimination of many foods.
  • Encourages unrealistic weight loss expectations.
  • Calorie intake is below that recommended for healthy weight loss.
  • Requires time for planning and preparing meals.
  • Many dieters will struggle to maintain weight loss once they reintroduce more foods back into their diet.
  • Drops have not been scientifically tested to support their effectiveness.
  • Requires the use of nutritional supplements – including the drops – which are quite expensive.

Are Amino Acids the Secret?

The Liquid Amino Diet claims to produce rapid weight loss due to the effects of the drops. However, results achieved on this program are most likely to be related to the severe restriction of calories, rather than any special properties of the drops.

Many dieters do achieve fast results on programs like this. However, in most situations the weight is regained when normal eating is resumed.

I first started on these drops a year ago. I heard a few people talking about it and went back and forth between trying it and not. I know myself. I can’t lose 2 pounds a month and still feel motivated to keep trying. I need something safe, where I can see satisfactory results at least in the beginning so i can remain motivated to keep going. Whether it’s water weight or not, I need that or there will be no motivation for me to continue.

I know thin people and weight loss “experts” talk about changing the way you think. And that is important. But they don’t seem to understand that when you are faced with the same failures, what exactly is the catalyst prompting your thought patterns to change? Changing your thinking and processing comes from seeing results. The same way you can’t stop a phobia by just thinking that it’s not that bad, you must face it and then know it’s not that bad, so too must you see results from weight loss plans to know that it really is possible. In a perfect world, you could change your thinking first, but this is not a perfect world and I for one do not operate that way.

I finally decided to try the drops. I did not feel comfortable with only 1,000 calories so I would increase it to between 1100 and 1200 and increase my water intake. I also love sweets, so I wanted to see if I still incorporated a treat each day, how my weight loss would work. There were days I even went up to 1300 calories. Only, the treats I allowed myself were always with a meal, always mid-day and never, ever snacking after 4pm. I continued to lose at least a pound a day. In a month of playing with the drops and customizing them to my habits, I lost 18 pounds. I was trying to drop some weight before a trip to Vegas. It was my intention to resume the program once I was back, but a lot of other personal issues kept me from doing so.

I did not feel jittery, I did not feel hungry. Seeing the numbers going down each morning motivated me to continue what I was doing. My clothes began fitting looser and I began purchasing a size I had not worn in over a year and getting into clothes I had tucked away in my closet because I couldn’t get into them anymore. My hunger was suppressed, but I also noticed that I was getting fuller off of smaller portions and I remember becoming physically ill after going to a restaurant and eating like I had before and not realizing that I was used to eating smaller portions now, my stomach had begun to shrunk and I could not eat as I had before. Although I felt horrible after that meal, it felt good to know that I knew my limits and that I was successful in the realization of learning to control my intake.

I am deciding to tap into the motivation I had last year when I took the drops and this time stick with it until my ideal weight is reached. Only this time, I will be “treating” myself once or twice a week, I plan to get exercising in on a more consistent basis and I plan on following up regularly with my doctor to check for adverse effects (e.g. liver health, gallstones). If all continues to be well health-wise and I am still dropping the weight, then I will stand by these drops 100%.

  • Jenn

I’m interested but yet a little scared. Want and need to lose 50lbs but yet scared to spend that kind of money and it not work…

    • Darlene

I just read the con’s on this Amino diet. I would tend to believe that with the calorie intake being below that recommended for healthy weight loss would put you in the starvation mode. No scientific literature on this product definitely scares me. It just isn’t healthy weight loss, and seems you would gain the weight back and more to easily. I am a independent beachbody coach and strongly believe in eating healthy and exercise to get the pounds off. We guarantee our products as well. With my first workout that I had ever done, I lost 12 pounds in 1 very first workout with beachbody. I eat healthy foods that you buy in the grocery store, nothing organic or special that is going to cost you a ton of money. In my opinion, I would never do something like this Amino diet, it scares me very much for people that are doing this. Unhealthy Unhealthy. Just eat normal healthy foods and exercise, the weight will come off and will stay off. It’s all about lifestyle change, it’s as easy as that is you get a support system behind you.

      • Heather

Amino acids are the “building blocks” of protein. What exactly is bad about that? You cite one of your concerns as not being researched and yet, you share no research or facts yourself. Just seems like you want to promote your own products. Being severely overweight is “unhealthy, unhealthy”. Don’t you think that people who are desperate enough to try these haven’t already tried eating normal healthy foods and exercise. Spoken like someone who has never been severely obese.

Have you looked at the 17 Day Diet or new Weight Watchers 360? They are both much more affordable and have a great track record for working.

and it has people to help if need . So why do you think something is STUPID if it helps ? got me

  • Heather

I have been on this diet since the beginning of December. I have lost 17lbs and I have not been following the diet part of the diet. I have been watching how much I eat, not eating too many simple sugars and sticking to healthy fats. I have not been counting calories or following the very restrictive guidelines of the diet. I am still losing around a pound a day. I went off the diet at Christmas. Ate a reasonable amount of whatever I wanted and stopped taking the drops. I didn’t gain any weight back that I had lost. That was when I decided to simply watch what I eat and not follow the restrictive diet. It’s still working for me, which is a first. Every other diet of these I have tried (HCG, RealDose, etc) if I didn’t follow the super restrictive diet, I either gained or just stalled. I would probably still be losing weight very slowly by just doing what I have been doing, watching what I eat, etc. But I know I wouldn’t be losing this fast and consistently because I have tried to eat like this before with no special drops or pills and it’s tortuously slow so I give up. I’m cautiously optimistic with this and at the very least, I feel much better because I have lost a good chunk of weight. I found these on a super discount for the first bottle. Try to find that if you are going to buy them because they are darn expensive otherwise.

    • marla

Yes Heather where did you get yours?

    • Melinda

Do these drops make you feel jittery? I hate that feeling! I wonder if you csn use these drops if your currently on prescription medications?

      • Heather

        I never felt jittery.

    • india

hello there. just received my drops, any tips?? just trying to stay on the right track

      • Heather

Increasing your intake of vegetables and fruit really helps me. I cut out as much fat from my diet as I could.

    • stephanie

Where did you buy yours Heather?

      • Heather

I bought mine on the product website. I don’t think you can get them anywhere else (not these specific drops). I take 2 prescription medications (welbutrin and prozac). I also take prevacid. I haven’t had any problems. I never felt jittery. Mainly, I just felt a little more energetic (not all that noticeable, so don’t count on a huge energy boost). I found that I did not have the desire for seconds or bigger helpings. I think that is mainly how these work.

  • me me

I started the drops 2 days ago and I dropped 4lbs already! Looking forward to 28 days!

    • Von

Me me: Did you start the diet in January, and how did weight did you lose?

of course your going to lose weight, the key to losing weight is called counting calories and no bad sugar! getting vitamin b12 shots and sticking to a low calorie, low starch and low carb diet you can lose 40 pounds in 5 or 6 weeks…….but you still have to work to do it!

    • marla

I did shots once and it took over one mth before k could see any difference and that was along with a healthy eating plan 1200 calories and exercise.

  • Morag

What specifically are the foods that can be eaten on this diet.

  • Cherie Johnson

I have done this diet and lost 40 pounds! It is great. I have kept the weight off for 5 months now!
