Israeli Army Diet

israeli-army-dietThe Israeli Army diet is a classic fad diet that was popular in the 1970s. Like most fad diets the name has nothing to do with the source. The Israeli Army diet has no connection whatsoever with the Israeli Army.

The diet also has a number of other factors in common with crash diets – low calories, poor nutrition, and subsequent weight gain.

This diet is not recommended. It is one of most nutritionally unbalanced diets around.

The diet plan was for 8 days where the same food would be eaten for 2 days at a time.

  1. Days 1 – 2: Apples
  2. Days 3 – 4: Cheese
  3. Days 5 – 6: Chicken
  4. Days 7 – 8: Salad

Black tea or coffee are allowed.

Why not try The 100 Calorie Diet instead which is a healthy low calorie diet.

    Hi all, I have a friend who recommended this diet but it did sound a bit ‘iffy’ so i did some research and came across lists upon lists of the best low GI fruits and vegies HOWEVER i am a carb and coffee fanatic! Love it so much if I begin a morning without it I find myself in withdrawal like symptoms and subsequently get cranky thus I find it hard to live without. Personally what motivates me – though not helping my self esteem, is when i look in the mirror or find myself buying clothes one size up from the last too often and running out of breath with my thighs burning. … So I have come up with a few alterations in combining this diet with regular nutrition.       I just started this diet today and I’m starving but will stick with it hopefully get results. I always need some sort of plan or someone to tell me what I should eat and make a diet for me.

      I ate 8 apples yesterday (day one). Jumped on the scales this morning and I had lost 2kg in one day.

    I WAS FIRST PUT ONTO THIS HERE IN AUSTRALIA IN 1986.I HAD PUT ON A LOT OF WEIGHT WHEN I WENT FROM DOING A LOT OF SPORT,INCLUDING RUGBY LEAGUE & UNION,SQUASH;TOUCH FOOTBALL;CRICKET,BEACH-SPRINTING ETC TO GIVING IT UP WHILE I WAS WORKING IN RADIO,SHINING A SEAT WITH MY DERRIER AS A BROADCASTER.I MET UP WITH AN OLD FRIEND WHO TOLD ME HE’D LOST APPROXIMATELY 2 stone (IN THE OLD WEIGHT) BY DOING THE ISRAELI (sic) DIET.BEING THE SON OF AN ISRAELI SOLDIER,HE TOLD ME THAT,IN PROPER SEQUENCE,THE DIET IS SUPPOSED TO BE; DAYS 1 & 2 OF CHEESE;3 & 4 ARE APPLES;5 & 6 WAS SALAD WITH NO DRESSING,EGGS OR MEAT & DAYS 7 & 8 WERE CHICKEN COOKED ANYWAY BUT WITHOUT SKIN.YOU CAN HAVE AS MUCH AS YOU WANT (OVEREATERS BEWARE !!)       As much as you need to not feel hungry! I would say at least 3 per meal.

    Am currently at day 7 and have lost 5.2kg thus far. Starting weight was 119.7 at 6.30am on day 1, Aa at 7am iwas 114.5kg. If you are weak minded and have zero will power to stick it out, this is not for you. Just set people straight, eat apples days 1,2. Days 3,4 eat cheddar, tasty, camenberg and brie. Days 5,6 i ate chicken like a mad man! seasoned in different batches with lemon pepper, paprika, caynne pepper. On day 7 today and just had a salad with Lettuce,Onion,tomatoe,carrott and 1 hard boiled egg. and i’ll repeat that for lunch. Am planning to have a Avocado and Spinach salsa. While this isnt sticking to the strict diet i plan to do this again 5 days after i complete it.

    I did this diet in the 70s and lost about 1 stone. The worst part of it was day 3 when I switched from apples to cheese. The salt in cheese tasted so gross. The salad days were green lettuce only, and no dressing.

    Do you have to do this diet for the 8 days on 8 days off or can you stay on it for a month or so?

      fasting can be great depending on what you are doing. A 10-20 day juice fast or juice feast citsosns of eating raw home pressed juices, teas, and water. So essentially you would be eating raw for that time. That would give you body natural enzymes in the food which give your organs a break. Also you would be extra hydrated, eating pure nutrition, giving you digestive system a break and resetting it. It is also a great test of self discipline. Fasting did not start in hollywood!

    If you really want to go on a crash diet where you are severely restricted then try only eating vegetables, or doing a vegetable juice fast. These options will help you lose weight fast without the damage to your liver and digestive system.

    I have tried this diet in the past and did lose weight HOWEVER I have since studied and become a naturopath and nutrionist and in my opinion this is nutritionally the WORST fad diet I have ever heard of. The damage you can do to your digestive system can remain for years and that is if you only follow the diet for eight days.

    this is about the best diet i have ever tryed, worked in the 70’s and 80’s and have just started back on it…as others have said you MUST stick to it and 8 days on and 8 days off, the more you have to lose..

    hey, sounds gud, especially the comment about the off and on weeks, with the offs eating sensibly. so how much of the food one ought to eat per day? (3 meals still?) shall we add it all to around 1100 cals?

    I did this diet too in the ’70s – it may be nutritionally unbalanced but it is only for 8 days – and it works if you need to lose weight in a hurry.
    I understood that the salad was lettuce, just lettuce.

    I did this diet on and off in the 70’s and 80’s. At one stage I alernated it 8 days on the diet 8 days off, eating moderately and sensibly on the off days, in a period of 6 months I lost 55 kilo’s. I kept eating sensibly there after and kept the weight off and have not been over weight since. It worked for me and only improved my health immmensly. it’s very hard and you need willpower plus! I also avoid apples noe like the plague….lol, but still love cheese and chicken!

      Hello!
      I did this diet, it does work especially if you exercise.
      Now, when i went back on my eating lifestyle i regained everything.
      I just started today and i m determined to not give up and control my weight.
      I do have one question
      Can i do it for 8 days then 2 days moderate eating and then back on the diet for a 3 week cycle?
      I know i can do it, i m 26, i m just scared that i will ruin my metabolism.
      Please reply, it would help me a lot. :)

        Hey there, one thing is for sure if u do that cycle you will mess up your body. The best way to go is to do this diet every month and to eat healthy, try to make smarter choices.

    For anyone that wants to diet, it will not work. One must change their eating habits for the weight to stay off. I have never tried this one but I have a different lifestyle when it comes to eating and it works for me. Also one must remember that everyone’s body is different and different people need different things to loose wieght. Example when I was younger I watched my fat in take to maintain my weight and now I have to watch the carbs. I am just giving a bit of advice change the way you eat and it will all work out! Congrats though to anyone loosing weight.

    Hi interesting to read all your comments. I did do this diet and lost around 5-6 kgs. As long as you know this is a quick fix for a special occasion you can be very sensible about it.
    For those of you who have not tried this dies I really don’t believe you can be so negative about it or towards whomever wishes to try it.
    Healthy eating is a lifestyle change and one you need to keep for the rest of your life.
    Good luck to anyone who does do it but again you must realize that it is really a quick fix.

    im realy want to try this but i cant eat cheese…..what can i change it for….any ideas….would yogut work do you think??,i also dont like milk(other than milk shake.or what about eggs??and to all those who tell us this is soooo BAD…well were all not so lucky to be able to fart out 5lbs some of us find it hard,i worked my ass off in the gym and swam every day for 7mnth and eat healthy…..and all i lost was a crappy 5lb so if i can do this and loose that in a week WELL im up for it!!
