Apple Cider Vinegar Diet

Apple Cider Vinegar is a tonic made by fermenting the juice of an apple. The apple is crushed, and the juice is squeezed out. The fermentation process occurs when yeast and sugar are added to the juice. A second process involves adding certain bacteria’s to the juice which will then form an acetic acid.

Folk Remedy

Apple Cider Vinegar has been used for many hundreds of years as a health tonic. Purveyors of the tonic claim that it will cure migraine headaches, diabetes, chronic fatigue, arthritis, high blood pressure and many other ailments.

There are a large number of health food manufacturers who tout this vinegar as a “miracle” healer. The sad truth is that there is very little evidence to prove any of these anecdotal claims. A nutritional breakdown of Apple Cider Vinegar shows that it is actually quite “bland” – rather than being the nutritional “storehouse” that marketers claim.

Apple Cider for Weight Loss

apple-cider-vinegar-dietIn the 1950s a country doctor in Vermont (Dr. D. C. Jarvis) wrote a book (Folk Medicine) that set the stage for Apple Cider Vinegar as a weight loss agent. He claimed that regular consumption of the tonic would cause fat to be burned rather than stored. Others claim that the pectin in the vinegar will bind cholesterol and remove it from the body.

However it is all conjecture – this supplement is harmless but is unlikely to offer many health benefits – and will absolutely not cause weight loss.

What people call the Apple Cider Vinegar Diet is simply the act of consuming 1-3 teaspoons tonic before each meal in the hope of losing weight. There is very little (if any) evidence proving that this is effective.

Of course I go to Walmart to get organic acv, and they dont even carry it. Does it really have to be organic? The acv dont really bother me, but I want to lose the weight. If it has to be organic, where can I buy it?

it doesn’t have to be the braggs brand, but the acv should say “the mother”, which is the organic type, so as long it is the organic type and says it includes the mother in it, it is good

I really would encourage everyone to try it. I mix a few tablespoon in one gallon of water and drink it throughout the day. Yes I drink a gallon of water everyday. It must be organic apple cider vinager. I have been doing this for about six months and have lost 60lbs with reasonable diet and exercise. It is not a miracle but there are definately many health benefits that apple cider vinager has to offer.

i’m from the uk,could someone tell me where i can find the braggs brand in the uk? x

You have to use braggs acv, it won’t irritate your throat. Also dilute it in water at least 8oz each time you drink it. i have noticed a about 6lbs weight loss at my 4th week and couple inches off of my waist. Give it it atleast a month to show some results. I started at 140 and now i am 134.

i’m have been using acv and didn’t find much result and it irrate my throat

  • December 2nd, 2008fazila

i have been using the store bought acv, for two weeks and this is my third week i switched to bragg’s acv now. I definetly feel the difference with regular as well as the braggs. The bragg’s is organic so it’s not tough on your throat and stomach. i have lost 5 lbs so far w/o excersing and dieting. since i have a 4 yr old and a 15 mnth old, i don’t have time to work out. i ahave been watching what i eat, eat healthy.

  • November 16th, 2008Sophie

  • November 13th, 2008Nancy

The ACV does work. I could not loose weight at all before I started taking it. I tried everything! I would take 2 Tablespoons in 8 oz of water, three times per day, before each meal. It also takes away food cravings and after the first week I starting loosing about 2 lbs per week or more. I did not exercise either. Be sure to get the organic ACV, not the store bought.

How much before your meals should you take the solution of water and vinegar? Also is it 3 tablespoons or 3 teaspoons?

  • November 9th, 2008Sophie

I find that drinking the ACV with Diet Lemonade covers the taste quite well if you are finding it hard to drink :)

  • November 7th, 2008Tweety

Can you put a little grape juice with the acv

  • November 6th, 2008jacqueline, barbados

this is what scientist would earn millions and years of expirements to find out, when i was a child living in spring farm, my mother gave the pigs vinegar every norning in their feeds, when the pigs were slaughtered the fat between the meet and skin was so thin and tight, as as appose to other pig rares who did not use vinigar on their pigs, people would ask my mother where is the fat, because they like the fat on the pork “they say it taste better when it is baked”, this was in the 70′s when people weren’t this health consious as we are today. i hope this help, as for me i cannot stand the taste and smell of vinegar, but if it worked on pig, scientist would agree that this is an observal experment that has been discovered by the springers of spring farm since in the 70′s. good luck give it a try.

Well worked great for me, cured my acid stomach completely. It only took a couple of times to get a permanent result. Prior to that I used anti-acid pills for 7 years. As a result of that I have also lost 15 pounds.

  • October 14th, 2008JAMAICA

three tablespoons of acv in a shot glass drink down. then follow with a glass of room tenp water. it works living proff i don’t go by weight i go by how my cloths fit i’ve went from a size 12/14 easy to a 8/10 my cloths fir right around my stomach but a also walk at least two every other day. WHAT WE ALL MUST REMEBER IN ORDER FOR ANYTHING TO WORK WE MUST BE CONSISTANT. AND NOT LAZY WITH OUR CARDIO.

  • October 13th, 2008Tracy

i pour two to three table spoons of acv in a shot glass then drink a glass of room temp. water. I’m just wondering can the acv still be as effective with weight loss opposed to mixing it all with some honey. besides it’s very distasteful with the honey

I don’t mean to step on anyone’s toes, but I think some people are misinformed. I’m not an expert or anything, so I suggest you go to the Bragg dot Com website, but you’re not supposed to drink vinegar straight. It should always be watered down, due to the acid content. I thought that should be stated, because you could hurt yourself drinking it straight. But please go to the site and get all the info for yourself! :-)
