The primary concept of the diet involves eating healthy fats and low-glycemic carbohydrates in a ratio greater than 2 to 1. The macronutrient breakdown of the diet is 20 percent protein, 15 to 25 percent carbohydrates and 55 to 65 percent fat.
The diet is very high in fat compared to most other regimes however there are very specific guidelines as to the types of fat you are allowed to consume. Healthy fats such as those found in nuts, seeds, avocado and fish are emphasized, while foods containing trans fats must be strictly avoided.
