Nutrisystem Diet

Nutrisystem Diet on-line program

Nutrisystem Success is a portion-controlled diet plan from online weight loss company Nutrisystem.

NutriSystem began in a similar way to Jenny Craig (with bricks-and-mortar weight loss centers), but a few years ago they became internet-only (sometimes incorrectly called nutra system)

Nutrisystem Success Options

The NutriSystem Success program is based on the Glycemic Index. Carbohydrates on the diet are generally low glycemic. A typical day would include 3 meals and 2 snacks. The food is available directly from NutriSystem (via their web site), who ship the food directly to the customer. There are options for men, women, vegetarians, and Diabetics.

nutrisystemThe idea is to restrict the diet to accurate portions based around the persons required calorie count. Food can selected from a pre-made menu, or you can select individual food items. The typical meal plan cycle is 28 days.

Like most packaged weight loss programs, they are useful for short term controlled weight loss. However many people will not continuing buying foods like this for the rest of their life, and will have to ‘wean off’ the program.

Nutrisystem  has a transitional program to help people adjust to a new way of eating when ready to prepare their own meals once again.

Considering that a significant contributor to obesity is growing portion size, NutriSystem can be very helpful for some people.

Chef’s Table Entrees

Many have had success with NutriSystem, but people have complained about the taste of the food. Nutrisystem listened and created a new line of entrees developed by top celebrity chefs. This was launched in 2011 as a way to clean up their poor tasting food image.

Nutrisystem has a current offer of 20% off and free Chef’s Table Entrees (with an online order) so that people can sample their new Chef’s Table Entrees.

NutriSystem Program

The NutriSystem Success program does provide more than a diet. A weight loss counselor is available via online chat (there is apparently no charge for this service). They also provide more information regarding exercise and building a healthy mind.

Five plans are offered, tailored to either men or women.

  • Core: Costs around $85/week with auto-delivery option.
  • Silver: This option for seniors includes recommended supplements and costs around $87.50/week with auto-delivery.
  • Vegetarian: Costs around $75/week with auto-delivery.
  • Diabetic: Costs around $80/week with auto-delivery.
  • Family Plan: Costs $50 less/month for the second member of the family.

Criticisms

As with many packaged food diets, some will not enjoy the taste of the NutriSystem food products. There have also been stories of some foods being substituted by NutriSystem at peak times (such as the new year) – this could be an issue if you have a food allergy.

Their new Chef’s Table Entrees hope to cause more people to enjoy the taste of their food.

  • I have been on Ntrisystem now for 11 days. The first week I was hungry but I expected that. If you expect to lose weight you will have to cut down the number of calories you consume. I know I was consuming way to many.
As you get older you need to consume even less and also increase your exercise. The food quality varies but I have not had prolems eating anything. It is very convenient. The instruction book -IF YOU READ IT!- provides me with all of the information I need and an exercise video is included.
I haven’t gotten on a scale yet but I know I have lost weight and I now feel great. I follow the program exactly and add in all of the foods they recommend. I have even eaten out 2 times! So far so good for me and I will continue as I have over 50 to lose..

  • to be perfectly honest the food was okay.. but in the aspect of Weigh loss i would say run fast and far from this diet.because while i lost 17 pounds the first week! its not worth it because guess what i gained over 60 pounds back after i stopped eating it due to the fact that it almost put me in the hospital from the cramps it gave me. Unless you plan on eating this food for the rest of your life!!! do not do the program. i would not want someone to go through what i am know and feel more horrible than when they started..i dont even want anyone i know to see me know..so please please…dont do it.

  • I’ve been on Nutrisystem for 19 days and lost 9 lbs. And my goal to lose is 30 lbs. which would put me at 130lbs. I think the food is good. This is a diet people! Eating all that “delicious” food is what got you FAT in the first place. If you didn’t lose weight then you weren’t following the plan. I think it’s actually impossible to not lose weight on this diet! The food comes with a complete book on what else you can eat in addition to the pre-packaged foods. It’s extremely straightforward…. Read it!

  • I just started this diet 1 week ago. I was on the Medi-Fast Diet and they give you a book on the program. It contained DIRECTIONS so you don’t have to call a counselor all the time. There were instructions on how to substitute food, exercise and how to go off the diet successfully. I decided to try Nutrisystem as I got tired of the same Medi-Fast food. Nutrisystem needs to do the same. Give us a book of instructions!. I still don’t understand the program after many calls to a counselor. So far I have only gained weight. I’ll stay on it for awhile and if I don’t loose weight I’ll go back on Medi-fast where I lost 54 lbs.

  • The food was completely awful. I had horrible stomach cramps and the snacks were overly salty. Too much soy (soy can change estrogen levels in women). Customer service was a joke. I do not recommend this diet at all. Save your money and buy locally grown fresh food.

  • I lost over 50lbs on NutriSystem. The food was not horrible at the time, but it is hard to maintain that weight loss once I was off the program (like any diet I guess). I would recommend it for anyone who does not have time to prepare healthy meals for themselves. I tried to restart the program after I gained some weight back though, and I couldnt bring myself to eat the food again. It wasnt bad then, but it does get expensive so I’m trying to go the cheaper route.

  • Eat all the green vegtables and red meat you can. Then add store bought frozen meals and create your own diet. It is cheap and healthy. I did it and lost 32 lbs the first month!

  • This diet is great i love it and it works for me perfectly. I have been on this diet for 3 weeks and have lost 19 pounds.

  • I lost over 90 pounds on Nutrisystem in less than a year. It’s simple- it works if you do it. If you let the food sit in the box in a closet- it’s not going to work. If you don’t like a certain meal, don’t order it next time. It’s not rocket science, and no one ever said that dieting was enjoyable!

  • how areu suppose to know what the good carbs and bad cards are after you are off the diet?? it makes no sense because there is no such thing as as a good and bad carb because either way they sre going to turn into sugar… its like the Nutrisystem is advertising FALSE HOPE

  • I have no Idea how the food tastes

  • this diet doesnt work and i dont likethe food and i didnt lose weight… i actually gained afew pounds

  • I am on my second week of NutriSystem and I have to say most of the food is horrible. I have had a few good things, but overall I will not purchase another month of food. I think Jenny Craig has much better tasting food, though both programs aren’t cheap.

  • First of all..the food is not packed high with sodium. It is very low in sodium. You need to eat more dairy if you are having feeling stinky. Second, if you don’t like the food…don’t eat it. Do something that works for you. Nutrisystem has worked for a lot of people because it is showing healthy food choices and portions. Many people enjoy the food! Including myself. Of course nurtrisystem is not a “life long” diet…you have to teach yourself how to eat. Americans are so used to eating gigantic portions that you get upset when the right amount is offered to you. Be fat or not…the choice is yours – whether it is nutrisystem or not – you should compliment those who are trying to do something about their weight.

  • it was my time of the month, and i was feeling very hungry.. i had to eat 6 of these meals to finally get full.. such a disappointment.. after i ate these nasty meals i got very bad cramps.. i havent lost any weight at all. is it because i eat to many of the meals at one time? Its not my fault im addicted to food.

  • This is the ONLY diet that has EVER worked for me. Yes, some of the foods are ‘yucky’, but I just didn’t order them the next time. And like Jane said, it’s just a matter of translating store bought food to the same idea. I have ‘cheated’ a few times and am still losing an average of 3 pounds a week. This is the first diet that I am never, and I mean NEVER hungry. Sure it’s expensive, but my health (not being obese) is worth it. Staying on it long term is not an option because of the high sodium content, but it really has ‘taught’ me how to eat right! And eating fruits and vegetables is not considered unhealthy! Only 15 more pounds to go!

  • If you look at the ingredients of their meals, they look far from healthy

    by Chris on 8/16/08
  • Some of the food is really good, and some I’m not so much a fan of. But the beauty of this diet is that you CHOOSE your food. So if you don’t like something one time, you can avoid ordering it next time. My issue with this diet is that it’s so very expensive. :/

  • Not to be gross, but the food made me very stinky to say it kindly. I think that it is highly process with loads of sodium and who knows what else. I think it may help some people lose weight initially, but I don’t think it is healty to stay on it for more that a few months. It does not offer a life long solution, and I think in the end people may wind up fatter than when they started this yo-yo diet.

    by Sarah on 7/17/08
  • This is the only diet that has worked for me. I work long hours and don’t feel like cooking when I get home or preparing lunches for work. There are a lot of foods that are pretty good (chili, ham and beans soup, good snacks) what do expect, it’s a diet and it works if you follow it. It’s not that difficult to translate into store bought food if you take the time to do it. High energy, reasonable quick weight loss, agreed with my system, lots of fiber. It worked for me, years ago and now.

  • Does anyone out there have any suggestions for low-sodium meal packages that can be delivered to one’s home? Mom is visually-impaired and we are seeking some alternatives.

  • I tried their beans-and-rice and lasagna. Not bad. Their actual food does not look as appetizing in reality as it does on TV.

  • The food is nasty! If you try to order food that sounds good, Nutrisystem substitutes with awful food. Most weight loss was due to water loss.

    by Terry on 6/27/08
  • I don’t think this plan actually works.
From what I hear the food is horrible and the most
poundage you lose is about 2 pounds. This sounds
more like a publicity stunt then a diet.

  • I’ve been on nutrisystem twice. The first time I lost 35 lbs, then I had a baby, now I’m working on the second time through. The food has greatly improved since last time I was on it. I also tried the vegetarian route but got quite bored with it since there isn’t much variety yet and it also gave me stomach cramps. Since I started the regular womens program a week ago along with walking at least a half hour every day and i have already lost 5 lbs!

  • The food gave me really bad stomach cramps.
