Liquid Diets and Juice Fasting

juice-dietLiquid Diets (or Juice Fasting) are used for a number of reasons – including detox and weight loss. However for weight loss, generally only fluid is lost – not fat.

A liquid diet consists of juices replacing every meal. Nutritionally this will provide virtually no protein or fat, and few calories. However vegetable and fruit juices will be rich in vitamins and minerals and cancer-fighting phytochemicals.

Liquid Diet for Weight Loss?

A Juice Fast should not be used as a weight loss technique. It is better to eat the fruit and vegetables whole – and therefore gain the fiber, and the increased metabolism resulting from digesting the whole food.

There are medically supervised liquid diets (such as Medifast and OPTIFAST) which are used for weight loss. Generally these (expensive) programs will cause quick weight loss – but they are not sustainable as a lifestyle.

Juice Diet Benefits

It may be beneficial to include vegetable and fruit juices in your diet – but not as a complete replacement of solid food. A number of people use a tonic or juice supplement in their diet to provide essential vitamins and minerals. Others claim there are detox benefits to be had from a juice fast. However you should not go beyond a one day juice fast without first consulting your doctor.

Meal Replacement Products

Meal Replacement Products (or MRP’s) are a general term describing products that have a full range of nutrients in them. Most of these are in powder form and when mixed with water or milk provide a liquid-based meal. These are often used by body builders or those looking to gain weight – they help provide macro nutrients in a convenient form, and are sometimes a lot easier than chewing your weight through lots of calories.

I have been Rebooting on a week off a week for a month now and have lost 12 pounds. While juicing I am neither hungry or craving. So I am sold on it. I am using kale, cabbage, broccoli, cukes, carrots, tomatoes, kiwi, bananas(hard to go through the juicer),oranges, apples, celery, spinach and any fruit or veggie that is cheap to juice but I do make sure the greens are there in abundance. I can not juice several times a day so I make it all in the morning for my husband and myself so I make about 5 quarts a day—have lots of energy also but after about a week I find that I need to add other foods for a few days so then I go on a different plan—ie slimfast last time and I am looking at the cabbage soup for the next time I need something else—anyway that is what is working for us.

I’ve heard a lot about the juicing reboot and have done a lot of research on this. However, There isn’t anywhere I’ve seen that helps with starting. I have a great juicer but I’ve never been very good at grocery shopping…especially making a list. Any help would be grateful. I don’t care about taste. I want results. I’ve been miserable for the last three years in my apprenticeship, so what’s another month? :)

I’m looking to try a juice diet, and am hoping for some advice. Is anyone who is on the diet taking any diet pills, exercising, or doing anything other than drinking juice? I am 148 right now and hoping to get back to being 115 again.

Checked my weight today, I was down to 176 lbs. I have been cheating, also. I need somebody, so that we can start together. That way I will be motivated and there will no cheating. Anyone out there…?

I want to start this diet…I have been eating like crazy because mother nature is right around the corner…Im wondering If that will ruin my diet plans of lasting. I want to try this diet for about 2 weeks and work out in low moderation so I don’t pass out. Any advice for me to get through the time of during mother nature visiting? I am 25 and have a daughter who is 6. I never weighed over 118 and now weigh 158 so I’m in desperate need of a quick start on weight loss…a boost of confidence. I would live to weigh between 128-135. So is there an average weight loss per week on this diet so I know how many weeks to go on this diet for me to lose between 20-30 pounds?

Hello all, I’m 16 years, 5ft 3 or 4 inches. I was 75kg 2 weeks ago, but lost 2kg as a result of dieting and have been able to maintain the 73kg. I would like to go on a one week juice fast to lose 5-6kg, so please, what’re the best fruits and veggies for the fast and is it ok to blend them with an electric blender?

I’m going to start today. I’ve heard nothing but positive results so I’m looking forward to it but I also know that it’s going to be a bit hard for me because I love to eat ALL the time. I weigh 156.9 lbs and I’m going to do this for one month and hoping to lose 10 lbs. If I see results I will continue the Juice Fasting until I reach my goal, which is to weigh 110 lbs. Wish me luck!

This is crap if you guys want to see a person who did the juice fast and lost like two hundred pounds in a year watch the documentary “Fat Sick and Nearly Dead” it is on Netflix, it has made look at things in a different way. It can be done and for as long as a person wants to do it. Of coarse under a doctors supervision.

Me and my husband have been doing this diet. He has been doing it for just over a month and has lost 3 and half stone! (39 pounds) I got a bit jealous and started a week ago and have lost 11 pounds! I did think he lost hat much because he was big and had it to lose, but I was only a uk clothes size of 12; now a 10.
To me more important than the weight lose is my health. I have asthma, eczema and hay fever. I used an inhaler at least 5 times a day before since starting this diet I hav only used my inhaler maybe 2 time altogether! No eczema flare ups and no bouts of hay fever or allergy symptoms.
I struggled for the first 3 days but am not having ANY cravings any more! I plan to do this for about 2 more weeks then wean myself back onto food with a raw food diet and then just eat healthy. I will try to continue eating well for ever (with treats) to maintain a weight I haven’t had since I was a teenager.
Obviously I have been doing gentle exercise daily.
I do now swear by this diet.

I am on day 8. Decided to do the diet with my younger sister. Please be careful and keep over the counter bolthouse or odwella when you are out and about. I worked out on day three and almost passed out. I evidently hadn’t drank enough juice. I started feeling light headed, then weak from my shoulders and then to the rest of my body. I was on the floor in my bedroom and had to crawl to the kitchen. I had pear juice already prepared. I drank that, but still didn’t feel so great. I grabbed a bottle of boathouse juice and drank about 3 oz. I felt energy almost immediately. No problems after that. I know it can be dangerous and you should be under a physicians care, but I am down from 196 to 180.4 in 7 days. I was bloated and full of xxxx, with an extended belly. I look so much better now. My sister plans to go for 40 days, but I don’t think I will. I am afraid that I could damage organs. I don’t want to lose weight and gain other illnesses. I am going to try to get through day 15 and stop. Besides, I hadn’t done enough research myself and just finding out that you aren’t actually losing much fat, it’s more fluid. I still like the idea that it is a starting point with me and encourages me to be more aware of my eating habits and weight gain. Must stay more active! Again it can drop PBS fast, inches too, which is what I wanted. Make sure that you don’t go directly back to the solid foods if you fast for a long period of time, it could make you very I’ll or take you away from here. Good luck.

This is my second year juice fasting and i got excellent results both times! I felt like i havent felt since childhood, is a great feeling of clear mind and body. After day 3 gets easy and i did it for 17 days once. No headaches or pain… only low levels of energy sometimes. I still worked out for most of the days. Great thing to do together with a friend!
