Egg Diet
Background
The Egg Diet has become increasingly popular due to reports that some well-known people and celebrities have successfully lost weight by eating only eggs. Apparently Nigella Lawson’s husband Charles Saatchi, lost over sixty pounds by eating nine eggs a day for ten months.
There is also discussion that Adrian Brody lost 30 pounds in six weeks in preparation for his role in the Pianist by following the Egg Diet. He has since explained that he actually followed a variation of the diet where he ate eggs for breakfast, a small piece of grilled chicken for lunch and a small piece of fish with steamed vegetables for dinner.
Egg Diet Basics
There are several versions of the Egg Diet that are circulating on the Internet. The most popular version of the diet does not actually consist of eating only eggs but it does involve getting the majority of your protein from egg.
This diet is basically a variation on the Atkins diet where the focus is on restricting carbohydrate intake. In this version of the diet you eat two or more eggs for breakfast along with, grapefruit, low carbohydrate vegetables or lean protein.
Lunch and dinner includes either another serving of eggs or a small portion of lean protein such as fish or chicken. Salads and low carbohydrate vegetables are usually allowed as desired however fruits are generally limited to one to two serves daily. Other carbohydrate foods such as bread, pasta and potatoes are strictly limited.
Another version of the diet is called the ‘Egg and Grapefruit Diet’ and this involves eating half a grapefruit with each meal. The rest of the diet plan is very similar to that outlined above.
The most extreme version of the diet involves eating only hard-boiled eggs and drinking water or crystal light drink mix.

Costs and Expenses
This is a relatively inexpensive diet plan and the only cost may be that the grocery bill is slightly increased due to the need to purchase extra lean proteins and fresh vegetables.

- Many people experience fatigue and nausea during the first few days of the diet as the body adapts to a reduced intake of carbohydrates.
- Eating a lot of eggs can cause constipation, flatulence and bad breath.
- Dietary boredom may reduce ability to stick with the program.
- Not sustainable as a lifestyle plan for healthy weight management.
- Likely that any weight loss will be regained upon a return to normal eating.
Conclusions
The Egg Diet is essentially a crash diet, especially the version that does not allow for nutritional variety. Although rapid weight loss will probably occur it is most likely that all of this weight will be regained upon the completion of the diet.
Obviously eating eggs alone is not a healthy way to lose weight and the extreme version of this diet is very dangerous for health. Dieters risk not only nutritional deficiency but also severe disruption to their health and well-being.

Is this recommended for someone that is diabetic?
I love the egg diet. But I do egg/yogurt diet. I’m about to start it back up since I got on the depo birth control shot and gained everything back. I lost about 60 pounds in 5 months.
morning I would eat 2 eggs and a lite yogurt.
lunch lite yogurt and a fruit
dinner normal meal with the family in small portion.
It definitely worked! If you can’t eat eggs for some reason like if you’re busy at work and can’t cook them or have time for premaking broiled ones, interchange it with lite yogurt.
Yogurt is proven to cut down belly fat, which is my problem area, and the most vulnerable to diseases like diabetes. Belly fat is dangerous!
I’m starting back on it this week.
This time around I’m going to do a healthy choice TV dinner meal for supper. Helps me better with porpotions!

I lost 10 kg on the egg diet only….I eat a dozen eggs every day.
Breakfast 4 hard boiled eggs white with a cup of tea or coffee… without sugar..
Lunch…4 Boiled Eggs white… along with single piece bread if need coffee.. without sugar…
Dinner…4 boiled egg white.. boiled chicken 200 gram without skin and fat..
totally avoid… sugar.. salt… oil… fried food.. eat only protein diet.. no carbohydrate diet..
Do one week only… No exercise No Stress..
I have about 3 eggs and 1 avocado a day – also alot of cheese , chicken and veggies. No bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, or fruit or juice. Lost 20 lb in about 3 months. Now wear a size 0, feel great, and I don’t go hungry. I used to eat alot of carbs and now I can’t even stand them. My HDL (good cholesterol) went from about 45 to 82!
I have tried the cambridge diet and this was ok but caused hair loss because of all the protien I eat.Is the egg diet simular are will this not effect me due to doing the egg diet only for 2 wks to get me on the right track.
I lost 7 kilos in 10 days with a version of the egg diet : Breakfast: 1 boiled egg, one glass of orange juice; Lunch: one boiled egg, an apple, Dinner: one boiled egg, a glass of tomato juice.
I did this for 4 months and lost 60 pounds with sunflower seeds in shell as snacks. I also substituted some healthy choice steamed meals along with hard-boiled eggs at times. I have never felt better and I have maintained the weight loss after the fact as well.
Marc how long did it take you to loose 50 pounds and how much did you work out and if you did what did you do…? how may eggs a day and when did you have your last eal of the day..?

Broil eggs are an appetite suppresant. I am currently on a diet that require you to eat 2 broil eggs, slice of wheat toast, and coffee or tea for breakfast. The egg definitely supprese my appetite for snacks. My goal is to lose 15 lbs by Thanksgiving. My diet requires no sugar at all, not even the natural sugar that comes from fruits. Once you have lost the desire weight, you can eat a small fruit once a day. This is the most successful diet I have ever been on. It definitely works for me. You must eat 3 meals a day and if you get hungry in between meals you can eat a broil egg. I was amaze at the fact that I could not eat fruits on this diet. But it made since, because I eat alot of sugar and fruits do have sugar. I exercise daily for at least 30 minutes, twice a day (AM and PM). I started my diet on 10/26/10. The diet plan states that I should lose between 5 – 7 lbs a week.

I eat a dozen eggs every day. Usually for lunch or dinner. Haven’t checked weight, yet. But it’s delicious.
@bethany heres an diet… With lemonade, Step 1# Buy a 1 bottle of lemonade wich it 0,5 Litars. Step 2# Drink the hole 1 bottle for 1 day. Step 3# Buy another lemonade and drink it for one day, thats how to do the lemonade diet, and psst: If you wanna eat something like meat you can’t but you can eat these following: Fries,Vegtables,Fruit,Bread,Rice And Everything White But Not Chicken.
It’ll keep 3-4 weeks, Ya loose 5 lbs a drink so 20-30 days youll loose more than 10 pounds
Yea i did it too that Marc did it really makes you lose fat, you lose 25 lbs 2-3 days… and you need to drink eggs if you dont know how then get a egg crash it and put it in the glass try with more than 4 eggs and add litle water
Thats great that everyone is losing weight. However in response to a comment above losing 4.5lbs in 5 days is called water weight. And the low carb diet is great as long as your eating a balanced diet ie. fruits, vegetables, whole grains and complex carbs. If you do not balance your diet once you stop eating just eggs (which I am pretty sure you do not plan on doing for life) and you start eating a normal diet you are going to regain all the weight you lost. Which is proven since the adkins diet is a failure, once you start eating normally the weight piles back on.
The best way to do this egg diet is replace your main protein with eggs, egg whites being best since yolk has a high cholesterol content. They are low in calories, high in protein and filling. Thus snacking on a hard boiled and eating scrambled egg whites with fruit or salad for breakfast is a great option.
Exercise is always highly recommended when dieting, muscle consumes fat. It is also always important to remember to drink a lot of water, since you are less likely to snack unnecessarily when you are hydrated.
I’ve been on this diet for 5 days now and have lost 4.5lbs. I only want to loose another 5lbs so am hoping that I can do this on this diet. The down sides are the lack of energy. I normally am very active but have had to cut down on this due to me feeling weakish! Hopefully that will pass- but I feel much better for having lost the weight.
i’ve done a special hardcore version of the egg diet. When training for my 1st amature boxing fight i lost 1 stone and 10lb in 2weeks with this diet…. after the 2weeks i went to a different diet eventually loosing 2 and a half stones in 13weeks! I recommend this diet as a kick start for anyone who is looking at loosing weight because the rapid loss of weight is good motivation to stick to a diet to continue to loose weight! I not only lost lots of weight fast i also felt good and improved my knowledge of food and what it does to the body! I love eggs, but never used to be able to eat them because they upset my stomach. Since I switched to organic free range eggs, I have no problem and now I eat them every single day. I cook them in safflower oil (excellent health oil) and have thin slice whole wheat toast with butter. I have noticed that I can go 4 hours with no hunger after having eggs. I have low blood sugar, so usually am hungry every 2 hours. My hair has grown like crazy..and my nails have never looked better and grow fast! Eggs are the perfect food! I’d be afraid to on egg diet, because I love them so much, I wouldn’t want to eat too many and get sick of them..lol. Eggs have amazing health benefits, they drastically lower the risk of cataracts, stroke, heart attack and breast cancer. What’s not to like?? I eat 12 a week..or more..yum!
This is logic people.. this is just an even more strict version of a low carb – no carb diet? So Yes results like this are to be expected.

I love eggs but i can only eat it with tomato sauce is that ok i have egg scrambled with tomato sauce in a bowel and nothing else what else could i eat ????

I lost 50 pounds on the egg diet! I like eating eggs so it wasn’t hard for me. I eat 2 fried eggs for breakfast with 2 pcs. of very thin wheat toast. Same thing for lunch and same thing for dinner. I usually have some cheese and wheat crackers for a snack as well as some dark chocolate. It wasn’t to hard since eggs are a natural appetite suppresant.
