Bernstein Diet
Dr. Stanley Bernstein is a Canadian physician who specializes in medically-supervised weight loss programs. Dr Bernstein’s weight loss practice began in 1974 – and has now grown to over 50 clinics in Canada alone. Dr. Bernstein’s program is clinic-based only – and there are currently clinics in Canada and the USA.
What is the Bernstein Diet?
The Bernstein Diet aims to lose 4-5 pounds per week and involves 3 visits to the clinic each week during the program.
The Bernstein diet program is a combination of low calorie diet (regular grocery
store foods), behavior modification, education and vitamin and mineral supplements. The daily calorie intake could be anywhere between
800 — 1350 calories per day – it is a case-by-case situation.
The diet claims that only fat tissue is lost during this rapid weight loss phase, and all other tissue (muscle, electrolytes, fluid) is retained. One of the major features of the diet is the vitamin and mineral supplementation – this is achieved by vitamin injections.
Updated:Patients receive a Vitamin B complex injection.
Dr. Bernstein has a number of phases on the diet – a Weight Loss phase, a maintenance phase and also the “tune-up” diet for small amounts of weight loss.

jenn, i use BD Ultra-fine 11 Insulin Syringe for U-100 insulin 1cc, 8mm, 30 Gauge needles- i fill the solution to .50ml of vit 12 and i dispose of them right away
Hey guys,
I just went to the sobeys pharmacy to get the b6 injectables. they apparently have it in that form but they have to order it and it costs 41.99 for 30ml vial…but even if i do get that, i still dont know how to mix these two solutions (vit 12 & vit 6) together in one syringe
I’m reading through all these comments because I’m looking to do the Vitamin B injections through my own dr first and then at home. I keep finding things going back and forth and it’s difficult to follow. Can someone please just let me know what I need to get from my Dr? (I have 2 DIN’s from Dr. B’s clinics but some here are saying the the B6 is not needed, etc) I’d like to follow the injections as closely as possible to what Dr. B’s does … can someone just tell me the injection names and amounts that are needed 3 times a week? I already have the presc. for Cyanocobalamin (DIN 00521515) … now what is the other one (DIN 02245215) and how often am I supposed to receive that injection? Thanks in advance for the help!
Addendum: Costco’s supplier does not offer Neo-Bex so they CAN’T get it in for you. This is what I was told when I went in to purchase the B12 today. I paid $3.69 for the 10ml vial. 2 of them plus tax came to $7.75 – not bad!
Question for those doing the injections: what size syringe to you purchase – I assume an insulin type syringe would be appropriate? Do you dispose of your syringes or do you keep and sterilize them for re-use? (dangerous unless you know what you’re doing)
100 syringes costs approx $32 plus tax from what I’ve seen today. I have not yet purchased them because I suddenly realized I didn’t know the best size to buy!
I just did pricing in the Halton area of Southern Ontario, and got this:
Neo-Bex:
Costco: n/a – they said they won’t carry it
Shoppers: $69.99 (and she made a big issue of also
getting 20x optimum points for it – unsure
if this is ongoing or just right now)
Superstore: $69.00
Both Shopperse and Superstore said they’d have to order it but normally get these within 1 business day.
B12 10ml:
Costco: refused to give exact price but said “under $4″
Shoppers: $9.99
Superstore: $4.99
I was told that B6 alone does not come as an inject-able – yet some have said they’re using it. Could those who have purchased it tell us where, and for how much?
Hope this helps.
the shots you get from the drbdiet is vitamin b12 plus b6…i only have the b12 serum, does anyone know where i can get the b6 vitamins from?
i have been using .50ml of the vit b12 since monday and i inject myself every other day, so monday, wed and fridays….so far its going well i have lost 3 pounds since monday september 21. iam not sure if iam using the correct dosage but iam not seeing or feeling any negative side effects…by next week i might increase the dosage to 1ml 3x a week
Could someone please tell me what dosage they have been using for the B12 shot
If anyone can share a sample Dr. Berstein diet list of foods under the 6-12-12 rule….would appreciate it….
Its not $315 a week – that’s only the cost of the first week with the introductory session and a week worth of visits. It costs $165 a week for 3 visits from then on. Well worth the money if you can stick to it. The injections do not work on their own without the diet and the diet doesnt work the same without the injections.
hey guys i have tired the diet and i never used any injections or vit b12 i am a nurse and we seemed to figure it out that its the postassium supplements that help the most and sticking to the diet..anyhow does anyone have the updated food list for the grocery store…i lost mine while moving and really really need it…
my e-mail is h_adds@hotmail.com
Hello there, this is the first time I have ever done this but I feel good about it.
I need to lose 25lbs I am to cheap to do Dr. B. So do I just go into Shoppers Drug Mart and say pls. sell me B12 shots and this Ne-Bex shots. and some needles? that simple?
Will the pharmacist tell me how much of a dosage i should take and when.
Or could someone out there pls. list measurements and what i should take.
is this hard?
Hi I would love the answer to that question also.
I believe you need both and .35 of each. If this is not correct please someone tell us. Thanks.
Hi
Do I need to take the b12 and b6 together or just the b12. And how much??
You can get B12 injections at No Frills (Victoria Park & Eglinton in Scarborough). They are ordering the Neo Bex for me; $68, expected on Tuesday.
I just finished 3 weeks at Bernstein … 15lbs gone. Very pleased; want to keep it going but can’t afford the visits. Ketostix also available at any pharmacy.
I have been doing the B12 injections for a while now but only just got the neobex. Shoppers ordered it for me 3 weeks ago, and i never got it. Superstore ordered it and it came in the same day. $68 plus tax for 10mL. Vitamin B12 was about $6 (Costco, similar elsewhere.)
Warning – I injected my stomache and got a bubble that lasted for days – i think i was on a slant. Thighs work much better… (backs)
I have been doing the B12 shots for a while, don’t notice a great difference, but I’ve been working out more and doing ok so maybe that’s all it’s supposed to do.
Injected NeoBex tonight, with the Vit B12 (3.5ml each as suggested) – neobex has lidocaine in it, so it numbs right after. Very nice touch. About 5-10 minutes after, I got a sense of calm, and wellbeing. Kind of worried that it’d be something bad, but it’s ok so far.
If you get the same prices I did, then you’ll pay about 80+ tx for 28 injections – over 9 weeks, 3 times a week, for under a hundred dollars.
Plus you can skip all of those office visits.
I wouldn’t recommend it though, unless you’re willing to talk about it with your doctor, to make sure they check into any other interactions that could be caused. Thanks to this site for the info I needed to see how it works.
Teresa, your information is so helpful. I have fibromyalgia and cant begin so say how good I felt on the “yellow” injection. Now thanks to you I I know is Neo-bex. Here’s my question. What is the dosage to inject? Do I need a prescription for this one? Thanks,
I think this is 5 rating
Where can one purchase the Vitamin B12 and Vitamin B6 injections in Vancouver, BC.
Hi! I’ve been doing the B12 injections and only eating the foods by the amounts (2 protein/2 fruits/2 veggies/2breads) allowed on the diet plan.
It’s been 3 weeks for me and I’m down 12lbs… my husband is down almost 20 lbs.
Its working for us! If you need the food list, post your email address and I’ll send it to you!
Thanks!
Is anyone losing any weight? I’m not. I’ve tried the neo-bex on its own and now I’m mixing it with the b12. I’m wondering if Dr B had something else in his concoction!!!
I’m in Pickering Ontario. I got the Neo-Bex at the Superstore/Loblaws in Ajax. If this helps.
I did but it was cheaper at Loblaws than at Shoppers. Wal-Mart said i needed a prescription for the Neo-bex. I believe any drug store will sell you the Vitamin B-12 because alot of people take the shots. They sort of hinted that a Nurse would be giving me the shots so i just agreed with her. I am doing it myself.
From Ontario, Canada and I thought all B6, B12, and B-complex were prescribed vitamins when injectable? I know I get syringes without script, but I can just walk into any shoppers drug mart and ask for these products without question from the pharmacist????
you have to have 2 fruits a day plus 1 cup of sugar free jello, 2 proteins a day 3 1/2 oz each. up to 16 oz of veggies aday. 2 breads only the approved ones. and 2 extras
some of the food is listed above. Drink lots of water.
I also use Crystal Light in some of my water. One caffenated drink aday the rest decaffenated.
I am doing .35 of the Neo-bex and .35 of B-12 together.
I am giving myself the shots in my stomach….where they were giving them to me at Dr. B. If that doesn’t work I will increase to .50 of both. Just starte yesterday so not sure how it will work.
you have to have 2 fruits a day 2 protiens
How long does the Neo-Bex 10ml bottle last, if you are doing 3 injections a week?
I’m doing a diet similar to bernstein, and have heard good things about Neo-Bex / B12 combo shots. Also, is standard dosage 0.5ml neobex at a strength of 1000mcg?
could anyone please post a sample day diet, like what you would eat each day?
Another star, another Genious of our days! Definatley on of the HISTROICAL figuers! Such a pitty!
where exactly do you put the shot? In thighs or butt….but upper lower is there a certain spot?
Just ask at any Drug Store Counter they have it behind the counter and you don’t need a presciption
I bought it at Sobeys. I am sure you can purchase it over the counter at Shoppers Drug Mart. Just ask at the Drug Counter
can you tell me where i can purchase the B12 and B6 in canada?
Hi I am going to start using the Vit B12 and Neo-bex in a couple of weeks right now I am still going to dr.b. You need to take the shots, taking the vits orally some of the vits are used up in the digestive system. Your body will use some of your fat for fuel where you take the shot….thighs, stomach or butt. I plan to use .35 of both and if that does not work I will increase to .50.
The Neo-bex was 68.00 at Superstore and the B-12 was 6.00.
I could not get it at Wal-mart was told I need a prescription for the Neo-bex. The B-12 you can buy at any drugstore. Some people are just using the B-12 and are having good results.
The main thing is you need to follow the strict diet of Dr. B.
Hi You can buy the B-12 shots over the counter under 10.00 and I bought the Neo-bex at The Superstore for 68.00 the Neo-bex does not have b-12 in it. I have not started (still going to Dr.B.) I plan to mix them in one shot using .35ml of each. I bought extra Potasium pills and will take a good Multi-vitamin everyday. I will also contiune to follow the strick diet Dr.B has. If this is not enough after a couple of weeks I will try .50 of each.
The point of the shots is to help the body break down the “fat” on your body and use it for fuel. Taking the vitamins orally is not the same a lot of the vitamins are lost in your digestive system.
When I start I will post my result.
Hi Gita…read all the post from the beginning….lots of useful information. Right now, I am using the neo-bex on its own. Earlier post said that the neo-bex is the b-comp and the b12 is mixed with b6 that Dr B uses. If you are mixing it should be .35ml of both (b12 and b6). Or as Zain suggested you can alternate the neo-bex with the b12 (use them on alternate days. Good luck!!!
Hi,
I am interested in this diet. How do you mix B12 with Neo-bex.Isn’t Neo-bex a shot?
Hi,
I have been using b12 tablets. How do you mix neobex shots with b12?
Hi
I started the Dr. Biernstien diet and would really appreciate some info on the how-to of the shots and vitamins. Please help! I can’t keep up with the outrageous cost of this diet.
Hi All, I’ve been using the B12 injections and only eating the proportions and allowed foods on the diet for 4 days now… and I’ve dropped 4 1/2 lbs…
FYI.. the B12 (1000ml) and needles (10pack) came to $10.71 and I was able to get the food list from someone I know on the actual diet!
If anyone is just taking the neobex with the diet, can you let me know how thats going?
Thanks!!!
Bonn
It’s working good so far!
hi everyone,
To answer the last 2 comments. I use 1ml of neo bex on monday, wednesday and friday-that also the days when I weigh myself to see if Ihave lost any weight. As well, I use the b.12 twice a week-either tuesday and thurday, or tuesday and sunday, just to give myself a break. It seems to be working out very well.
Hi Zain How much are you taking of each?
Zain thats great!! Are you losing weight using both neobex and the b12? And how many ml are you taking? I want to buy it too, but i’m unsure whether to buy the neobex or the b12?
I’m a little confused. I’ve read all the posts. The last few posts say to mix B12 with neo-bex – .35ml each — but earlier posts say to use the neo-bex without mixing. I have the neo-bex and the B12 – which I purchased at Shoppers’ – I have to wait to get the B6. Much earlier posts say to mix the B12 and B6. When I was going to Dr. Bern.. I was given the B12 and not the B-comp (which is the neo-bex) – I want to stick with the one I was given there. So, could someone clarify if I should be mixing the B12 with the B6 and if I decide to use the neo-bex, I use it alone without mixing…..OR is it possible to mix the neo-bex with the B12?
I’m so glad I came upon this site. I was about to go back to Dr Bern for a tune-up when I discovered this site. That would have been my third tune-up in the past five years. The diet works but as soon as you are off the weight comes back. Unfortunately, I cannot afford the long maintenance program and the inconvenience of going into the office. The diet itself is not realistic and cannot be maintained.
I started the diet two days ago and I’ve already lost a few pounds using the neo-bex only. I’ve also decided that I would eat some of the same foods as the Dr Bern diet plan but with a few modifications here and there…not much modifying but enough to keep off the hunger.
Good luck to everyone.
Hi Could you please give me more infor. If this posts more than once I am havinng trouble posting. Are you taking 1 shot mon wed and fri. What amounts? Please help me I am still going to Dr. B. and I am paid up till end of the month so if I could do this at home it would help me alot.
THANKS.
Hi everyone, I bought the neo-bex at walmart for 66.97 and the b.12 for only 4.97 also at walmart. I’m doing the diet on my own and have lost 4lbs already in 4 days. Good luck to everyone. WE CAN DO IT.
So I should mix both using .35ml of each for my “double”
Hi Angel,
There is no vit b12 in the Neo-bex.
Hi I am able to buy the Neo-Bex over the counter, just need to order it a couple of days in advance. The cost is
$100.00 for 10ml. So do I still need both the Neo-Bex and the cheap Vit.B 12. Because someone said there is Vit. B. 12 in the Neo-Bex. Would be alot cheaper to use both because the B.12 bottle was only $7.00.
Hi
Reading the posts It seems like a single dose just contains B12 which you can buy over the counter so how about a shot everyday? Going to look into Neo-bex.
If I get it then I should mix 35ml of each in my “double” shot.
