Bernstein Diet

bernstein-dietDr. Stanley Bernstein is a Canadian physician who specializes in medically-supervised weight loss programs. Dr Bernstein’s weight loss practice began in 1974 – and has now grown to over 50 clinics in Canada alone. Dr. Bernstein’s program is clinic-based only – and there are currently clinics in Canada and the USA.

What is the Bernstein Diet?

The Bernstein Diet aims to lose 4-5 pounds per week and involves 3 visits to the clinic each week during the program.
The Bernstein diet program is a combination of low calorie diet (regular grocery
store foods), behavior modification, education and vitamin and mineral supplements. The daily calorie intake could be anywhere between
800 — 1350 calories per day – it is a case-by-case situation.

The diet claims that only fat tissue is lost during this rapid weight loss phase, and all other tissue (muscle, electrolytes, fluid) is retained. One of the major features of the diet is the vitamin and mineral supplementation – this is achieved by vitamin injections.
Updated:Patients receive a Vitamin B complex injection.

Dr. Bernstein has a number of phases on the diet – a Weight Loss phase, a maintenance phase and also the “tune-up” diet for small amounts of weight loss.

  • I am interested in following the Dr. B diet at home without the injections (obviously). Does anyone know where I can find a meal plan or a breakdown of the diet? Is there any point to taking B6 and B12 in pill form? I would love to find a couple people to support me through this as well.

  • Hi HMac,

Dr. B. cook book (what to eat and what not) is available for download online. Google the term “dr. bernstein cookbook”. B6/B12 pills will work but not as effective and as fast as the injections.

For me personally, the best form of support came from blogging http://phatpast.wordpress.com my weight loss process. You can also read more about the diet break down.

    Good luck to you.

  • @phatchic

People doing the Dr. B at home are the majority???? I do not think so. I have searched and searched for support. I think there would be more if that were the case. Just my opinion though :)

  • Where can you buy the b6/b12 injections. Do the pills work as well.

  • Hello Everyone…

I was doing the diet through the clinic and lost 28 lbs, but i still have 15 lbs more to loose. I started doing the diet home, but i find it very hard to stay on track! I need help.

It would be great if i can get help from a buddy :) If i do it with someone, i think i will stay motivated :)

    Anyone interested?

    Monica

  • @Arin
My comment about being the majority was meaning “over weight and always seeming to diet” not being on the Bdiet at home. My comment was not intending to offend anyone.

  • Ive been on this program for 8 days and i have lost 9 lbs. I think its difficult but you have to ask your self repeatedly “do i want to be fat forever”… i also have disciplined myself to drink 1 bottle of water before any meal and bed. That usually equals out to 4 bottles= 8 cups, Although im supposed to drink 10 1/2. I wont lie though..i have cheated here and there..honestly one time i scarfed down 2 handfuls of BBQ lays..but because i felt i really cheated myself i worked out for 45 mins.. and cut out my carbs and fruit for the next day. =)…im 22 and honestly, i want a BACONATER…but than again i also want to fit my behind into a bikini atleast my mid August. Ive never wore a bikini in my life!

I will be your buddy as well :) My email is on the previous page since I do not know how to remove it LOL. Sam’s YouTube site is AMAZING!!!!

    @Patchic

Never said you offended anyone :) Especially not me LOL. Your comment makes more sense now that you elaborated on it ;)

    by Arin on 6/8/10
  • @ phatchic

I don’t think you offended anyone. When I read your post, I thought – if she means fat people are a majority, then I agree!
    @ MOnica

If you go to you tube – just enter Dr. Bernstein diet and it should pop up (eventually??).

    @ uhoh

I laughed out loud at the baconator comment!

  • Hi Sam are you doing a blog? Where can I find it if you are?

    by Angel on 6/12/10
  • @ Angel Yes, I have a blog. Unfortunately, I have some mental deficiency which does not allow me to learn how to add links ???
If you go to my youtube site (enter Dr. Bernstein diet)- I somehow managed to bypass this problem and added the link on my profile :)

  • Questions: Can the B6 and B12 injections be purchased from a pharmacy? In the literature I received from the clinic about B6, it stated that any excess of the vitamin that is ingested will be eliminated from the body after 8 hours—does this apply only to a pill format? Thanks

    by Alberta girl on 6/17/10
  • Found it. Thanks

  • Hi I heard somewhere there is a new food list for 2010….if anyone has it please share.

    by Angel on 6/29/10
  • That sounds so delicious nicole, thankyou i will definitly try that! =) im salvating as i type.. Hey.. but what do the muffins count as? =)

    by Uhoh on 7/2/10
  • I bought 1/2cc needles, will they work the same as 1 cc. The b6 & b12 injection shots are .35cc for each. What would that be in ml. The suringes I have are in ml not cc. And is .35cc of each b6 & b12 a double shot or single shot injection.

    by Mary Thomas on 7/5/10
  • @ Mary Thomas;

It all depends on whether you want to take the shot daily or every other day.

If you want to take the shots daily, then the 1/2cc needles you have are fine and you do .18cc of each vitamin. Otherwise, you need 1cc needles for every other day; .7cc (.35cc b6 + .35cc b12) in same needle. I’m sure you don’t want to use 2 separate needles/shots.

The .77cc is a double shot injection.

    1cc is 1ml.

I don’t check this page all the time, so if you have other questions feel free to leave a comment on my blog http://phatpast.wordpress.com

    Good luck.
