Banana Diet
Background
When the Morning Banana Diet was promoted on the Japanese social networking site ‘Mixi’ in March 2008 it became so popular that it resulted in a nationwide banana shortage.
The diet was created by Hitoshi Watanabe who has studied preventative medicine and his wife Sumiko who is a pharmacist.
The Morning Banana Diet Basics
The creators of the Morning Banana Diet claim that eating only bananas and drinking room temperature water for breakfast leads to weight loss regardless of what is consumed for the rest of the day.
The diet is extremely simple and easy to follow however many Japanese have reported rapid weight loss when experimenting with this diet.
One of the reasons why the diet may work is that bananas are said to improve digestion and boost metabolism. Another possibility is that bananas are high in resistant starch, which is a type of fiber that can promote the feeling of fullness and may block the absorption of some carbohydrates.
The reason why the water has to be room temperature is not certain but many theories have been speculated on the Internet such as that it improves digestion or reduces hunger.
Dieters are also advised to eat their evening meal before 8pm and to avoid desserts after dinner. If feeling very hungry it is acceptable to have a piece of fruit.
Aside from eating bananas for breakfast and avoiding late night eating another rule of the diet is that you must go to sleep before midnight every night. The rationale behind this advice is sound as scientific studies show a relationship between sleep deprivation and obesity
At all times dieters should follow the Japanese principle of eating until only 80% full.
Dairy products and alcohol are also not allowed on this diet. In addition the only beverage that may be consumed with meals is room temperature water.
Recommended Foods
Bananas – must be raw, not cooked and not frozen.

Exercise Recommendations
Dieters are told they should exercise only if they want to.
You may want to try these exercises with the Morning Banana Diet.
Costs and Expenses
See The Morning Banana Diet Official Website
Pros
- Eating breakfast every day may increase metabolism and reduce the likelihood of overeating later in the day.
- Avoiding caffeine at breakfast may lead to more stable blood glucose levels and reduced appetite.
- Not eating after 8pm will reduce tendency for late night snacking on high calorie foods.
- Avoiding dairy products and dessert will reduce calories by limiting fat and sugar intake.
- Bananas are a nutritious food and high in fiber, vitamins B6 and C and potassium.
- Discourages overeating.
Cons
- Some dieters may not respond well to a pure carbohydrate breakfast particularly those with hypoglycemia.
- Easy for dieters to consume excess calories if they eat whatever they like for lunch and dinner.
- Does not encourage exercise.
- Does not address psychological factors involved in dieting.
Conclusions
If dieters are experiencing success on this diet it is not likely to be due to any special fat burning qualities of bananas. It is much more likely that it is related to following the other rules of the diet such as eating only at specific times of the day and avoiding desserts.
This will result in a reduction of calories that will promote weight loss so long as dieters do not consume excessive calories in their other meals.

would like to try the banana diet for my daughter
when i was younger i tried a bananas diet and it work really well for me, and i am thinking of trying it again now that i am older and see if i get the same out of it.
This is a great diet!!! I first heard of it in college 2008 and was trying to help a friend lose weight tho i think that a small amount of working out works great with it my friend and i worked out for about20min. a day
and in about 2 months or a little less she lost about 30lbs. and I got the toned feeling i was looking for!!! I did not lose a ton of weight because i was working on building muscle my weight was 115lbs at 5.6ft so yeah this is a great idea for anyone looking for a boust.
is it really work? i’m quite chuby and i’m willing to make a change in myfigure….
Hiii … i am not overweight … may b slightly … i am 160 cms and weigh arround 65 kgs (25 yrs old) … i really liked this diet… i am trying to lose weight but always stuck with some stupid diet where i end up eating more… Hmmmm I love bananas … so i really wish this works for me … but can anyone tell me which bananas to eat … there r lots of varieties available in the mrkt like cavendish green banana , and small yellow banana … pls tell the right one .. i want to lose weight … thank u for succha nice diet sugestion …

I weigh 191lbs and need to lose 66lbs. starting off tomorrow. will get back in a week. wish me luck, everyone! Pattypatto!
Love banana will try as of today
did everybody that tried it die?
im gonna try it,aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
what can we have in sweet snack ?? and the people who r followng what are they taking 4 lunch??
I think I will start this diet tomorrow I will update in a week with my progress
I’ve already lost just over a stone over a few weeks through exercise and change of diet but rescently noticed a difference when having two bananas for breakfast and two for lunch and a normalish meal at night. I came across this diet by googling banana diet by chance. Though I haven’t stuck to this strictly as I don’t drink the room temp water and still enjoy tea and coffee through the day, I can say that it is making a good rapid difference over the last few days.
Good luck to those who try it.
Paul
I jus hav 2try this I love bananas bt hate water
I will give this banana diet ago and see what happens.
will get back to you guys in one week and tell you the results if it works or not
I wanna try this diet, I have already lost 2 stone (idk what that is in lbs) But to be honest it’s because I haven’t been eating enough. Has anyone personally tried it, if so, what were the results?
i am on this diet and i love it! i got results in less then 3 days. im not fat or anything i just have some unwanted bluber in some areas of my body. but yeah, this diet really works. working out while on this diet helps alot. and i try not to eat anything too sweet. like i would have a non fat fruit snack or some mangos at like 3. also if for lunch and dinner you eat some negative calorie foods, you will double your progress. so i ate 2 to 3 bananas in the morning with some water, eat some veggies or cottage cheese or some white meat with peppers around 12 or 1. then ate like 3 i ate some mangos(a delicious negative calorie fruit) and then ate dinner at like 5 ( what ever i pleased) and i would take a good power walk in the morning and later in the evening. So trust me , this diet does work, you will see results in 3 to 4 days tops ( mainly if you do what i did) but its a good diet.
I think the obvious thing here: is the drink water, if You’ll used to drinking soda, milk, beer. then You change to just drink water all day , You’ll certainly be losing weight. My trick is , anytime my water glass in empty ` I always fill it up. It’s always there. I started doing this about 7 months ago (232lb) right now I’m 192. oh and today, just water and a healthy blend. (5 tall cups of water today) unedited
I WOULD LOVE TO TRY THE DIET BUT JUST THE THOUGHT OF EATTING RAW BANANAS
Has anyone tried this? And any results?
i really think i can lose my goal of 500 pounds by this summer with this diet
I LOVE BANANAS.. gonna give it a try . . hope i reduce my weight..
PLS PRAY FOR ME
would i have to start the diet over (im on my first day) if i ate just like a 3 by 3 inch piece of cheese?
Will give it a try. HAVE to lose 5 kg. FAST!!! Keep you posted… Can’t stand bananas though, but willing to try nevertheless. Sounds better than skimmed milk, no sugar, no this, no that, bla bla bla.
wow this is so clever but the problem is I DONT LIKE BANANAS
the thing about this diet is, every person is different. bigger and more active people should take in more nutrients. this diet however does not recommend any other foods such as meats, dairy, vegtibles, wheats, etc. this diet tells you to eat a banana for breakfast, but that to me isnt considered a diet if you get to eat whatever u want. to me its just saying eat whatever you want witha banana for breakfast and you’ll lose weight. not much of a diet.
Sounds way to easy to be true. I am a 64-year old man, and I have to lose approximately 30 lbs.
I would like to know about drinking diet drinks and i work at night. Will i still lose weight on this diet.
sounds like something i wanna try to bring in thr new year
i must give it a try..:-) theres no harm in trying..
i’m going too try it soo exciteddd!!
