Apple Cider Vinegar Diet

Apple Cider Vinegar is a tonic made by fermenting the juice of an apple. The apple is crushed, and the juice is squeezed out. The fermentation process occurs when yeast and sugar are added to the juice. A second process involves adding certain bacteria’s to the juice which will then form an acetic acid.

Folk Remedy

Apple Cider Vinegar has been used for many hundreds of years as a health tonic. Purveyors of the tonic claim that it will cure migraine headaches, diabetes, chronic fatigue, arthritis, high blood pressure and many other ailments.

There are a large number of health food manufacturers who tout this vinegar as a “miracle” healer. The sad truth is that there is very little evidence to prove any of these anecdotal claims. A nutritional breakdown of Apple Cider Vinegar shows that it is actually quite “bland” – rather than being the nutritional “storehouse” that marketers claim.

Apple Cider for Weight Loss

apple-cider-vinegar-dietIn the 1950s a country doctor in Vermont (Dr. D. C. Jarvis) wrote a book (Folk Medicine) that set the stage for Apple Cider Vinegar as a weight loss agent. He claimed that regular consumption of the tonic would cause fat to be burned rather than stored. Others claim that the pectin in the vinegar will bind cholesterol and remove it from the body.

However it is all conjecture – this supplement is harmless but is unlikely to offer many health benefits – and will absolutely not cause weight loss.

What people call the Apple Cider Vinegar Diet is simply the act of consuming 1-3 teaspoons tonic before each meal in the hope of losing weight. There is very little (if any) evidence proving that this is effective.

  • I started this a little over a week ago and have lost 5 pounds. I drink a glass of Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar. Its connsists of 2 tsp. of Apple Cider Vinegar 2 tsp. of Organic Honey and 10oz. of water. I drink one before breakfast one for lunch, one at mid afternon and one in the evening. Its refreshing like a zippy tasting apple juice. Its great poured over ice. I notice it has detoxed my body, it give you energy. Its not going to work if your chasing your drink with a high fat meal!!! You can also mix the honey and Cider Vinegar in hot tea to drink. Enjoy!!!

  • I tried this diet for 3 weeks. Every day I would drink a glass of apple juice with 2 teaspoons of cider vinegar with 8 oz of the juice, 4 times a day. I lost a total of 25 pounds! This really works. By the way, I lost a total of 20 points in my cholesterol as well.

  • i used to be size 24 when i’am single but end up 34 after giving birth last dec’2008. I’am so busy attending with my kids nowadays does giving me no time for gym, taking care of my baby served as my exercise. So frustrating seeing my self in the mirror like this and constanly wishing to get my figure back, is there any one who can show me pictures that would testify their weight loss on this ACV diet coz honestly im having hard time of drinking vinegar. I need some stuff to boost me.

  • it’s really nice to know that you’ve surpassed that time(having candida)in your life. I was suspecting that we had the same case, after giving birth last dec’08 i ended 34 from my usual size of 24-25 and it is so frusrating seeing myself in the mirror and wishing to see the same old figure i used to see in my photo album. I had read alot of story about this ACV but i am still in doubt on its benefits especially on weight loss. But after reading your story, apart of my mind had boost me to try it and stick on it for awhile and see what big changes it might offer. Wish me luck..

    by dorene on 3/30/10
  • I was just wondering does the pills have the same effect as just taking the liqied

  • There was a study at Arizona State that showed that apple cider vinegar accomplishes the same thing that Metforman does. Metforman is often prescribed by doctors for patients who are struggling while dieting. The Apple Cider Vinegar improves insulin sensitivity and weight loss is a side effect.

  • is it tablespoons or teaspoons? some people say it’s tablespoons & others say it’s teaspoons. I am very confused on which dosage..

    by Sandy on 4/22/10
  • There is only one way to lose weight: stop eating so much! The reason you put on weight is you are taking in more food energy than you are using; therefore, the excess is stored as fat. It all get into you through that one small hole. Plug that hole and the weight problem is contained. That simple.

Drinking a glass of water before meals will do much the same thing.

    by Tallguy on 4/24/10
  • [MARY] First problem is you’re not eating enough calories. That’s the bare minimum that an average person needs, and since you’re overweight you will need more likely as you probably have more lean body mass along with the extra fat. Diabetes if fully curable. ACV may be effective but it is not your solution.

    Best of luck!

  • I’ve started this diet a week ago today, but only am taking 1 tablespoon at a time in orange juice before meals. Orange juice makes it taste soooo much better!! I also add L-Carnitine to my first glass of Vinegar and OJ in the morning which gives me a ton of extra energy, look L-Carnitine up, it’s really good for your heart!!

Anyways, in only 7 days, with moderate exercise and good food as well, I have lost 4 pounds!!!
