Apple Cider Vinegar Diet

Apple Cider Vinegar is a tonic made by fermenting the juice of an apple. The apple is crushed, and the juice is squeezed out. The fermentation process occurs when yeast and sugar are added to the juice. A second process involves adding certain bacteria’s to the juice which will then form an acetic acid.

Folk Remedy

Apple Cider Vinegar has been used for many hundreds of years as a health tonic. Purveyors of the tonic claim that it will cure migraine headaches, diabetes, chronic fatigue, arthritis, high blood pressure and many other ailments.

There are a large number of health food manufacturers who tout this vinegar as a “miracle” healer. The sad truth is that there is very little evidence to prove any of these anecdotal claims. A nutritional breakdown of Apple Cider Vinegar shows that it is actually quite “bland” – rather than being the nutritional “storehouse” that marketers claim.

Apple Cider for Weight Loss

apple-cider-vinegar-dietIn the 1950s a country doctor in Vermont (Dr. D. C. Jarvis) wrote a book (Folk Medicine) that set the stage for Apple Cider Vinegar as a weight loss agent. He claimed that regular consumption of the tonic would cause fat to be burned rather than stored. Others claim that the pectin in the vinegar will bind cholesterol and remove it from the body.

However it is all conjecture – this supplement is harmless but is unlikely to offer many health benefits – and will absolutely not cause weight loss.

What people call the Apple Cider Vinegar Diet is simply the act of consuming 1-3 teaspoons tonic before each meal in the hope of losing weight. There is very little (if any) evidence proving that this is effective.

Today is my first day. I trust this will work. I’ve been using lemon with hot water for a week now, and that also works. My tummy has gone flat….mom, with 3 babies, first born 4.

Hello everyone. I have been reading this article and responses. First, I would like to say that in my experience that ACV is very beneficial, BUT it is not a magic bullet. It can help heal the body and set your digestive tract back online, but you also have to be responsible and not jeep filling your body with crap. I dont think I need to elaborate as what constitutes crap because their are enough articles on the internet set pretty sensible guidelines, :D .

As for AVC, make sure it is raw ans unfiltered (distilled). Processed vinegar has little benefits compared to raw vinegar. Raw vinegar, like yogurt, as living microbes that are GOOD for your digestive tract. As a matter of fact this is why people notice some weight loss on the quote unquote ACV diet. These little healthful bacteria help you food digest better.

I started the ACV diet just nine days ago and have lost five pounds. I can say that generally eat well (not perfect) and have sparcly exercised over the last nine days. I can also testify that I’m not bloated and/or retaining water, I have more energy, and my skin feels amazing. I highly recommend taking ACV for weigh loss, and if not, then just for your overall health…I don’t intend on stopping anytime soon.

I can not testify to weight loss, but i CAN say emphatically that it is amazing at cutting acid stomach, reflux and really cut sugar cravings substantially !! When I find myself in an addicts fit fro sugar I can drink some ACV and water and wa la! better health just by avoiding that demon.

I read an article in Diabetes journal and it said that ACV had the same affect on blood glucose as Metformin – the diabetic drug. Impressive

Acv worked for a family friend, it took about 6 weeks for him to see the results for the wieght loss aspect of the diet, I have been taking 1 cap full and slamming it down, then chasing it with about 20 oz. Of water (much more bareable than mixing) 3 times a day. I have noticed a decrease in appetite and also feel much better. I feel more hydrated and pure. I believe acv or any type of vinegar does remove free radicals and other toxins from your body. Its acidic content is also easier on your digestive system and does help you metabolize faster…….. jane…..

ACV helps aliviate toxins from the body and also vinegar, any kind, is known to curb the apetite, so while ACV does not directly magically remove fat from your body like liposuction, it certainly helps the weightloss process, and does wonders for celulite and skin problems as well

Jane, WTF. It is ACV, it is full of goodness & don’t we all need some of that. You drink ACV & water. It dissolves kidney stones, lowers chlosterol, breaks down sugars & kicks the spiders out from between your ears. You really ought to give it an honest try.

@Cristina-I am on day four now and haven’t seen any real weight loss, however I don’t have the icky bloated feeling that usually always wake up with and tend to feel through out the day, I also definitely feel less water retention, and have had more energy. So all in all its going well, I would like to see the pounds go down next! ;) good luck! I’d love to know if you see any results!

So i am 23, about 5’5, the heaviest I have ever been at 148 pounds, I really want to shed atleast 15 pounds, this deit seems to work and sounds like most of you have had great results, I’m just wondering if there is anyone out there around the same weight and height as myself that has had these awesome results, I would love to hear from someone that could relate and/or has some advice. I started the ACV diet yesterday, taking two tablespoons of ACV to 8 oz of water three times a day before each meal. I generally eat well and to a moderate amount of exercise, we’ll see, if anyone has any tips I’d loveto hear them!

I’m not sure where Olivia and Jane seem to be getting their information at but it’s uh uninformative at best and yes, I’m being polite. :0) Apple cider vinegar has been proven in a number of studies to lower cholesterol and blood sugars. And while I didn’t have a problem with high cholesterol I was diagnosed as IR (insulin resistant) or pre-diabetic so I talked to my dr for her approval if I could get my sugar numbers down with using apple cider vinegar. And that’s exactly what I did! I would make a 8 oz glass of water with 2 teaspoons of Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar and drink it 15-30 min before breakfast, another 8 oz and 2 tsp 15-30 min before lunch, and then repeat this before dinner. All the while keeping a close tab on my sugars upon waking, 1 hr after eating, and then 2 hrs after eating. I was amazed at how much the vinegar brought down my sugars!! My lab fasting before starting this was 104. Six weeks later when I went for my next set of labs, my fasting was down to 88. She no longer considers me as having pre-diabetes but does want me to continue to monitor just not as rigid… Bragg’s with the ‘mother’ in it is what you want!! It’s brutal at first but you do get used to the taste and if it keeps me from developing diabetes and off meds, I’m for it!!!!

To me water is bland, I don’t like tea but I have a taste for organic apple cider vinegar. So in order to drink plenty of water I finish filling a water bottle to the top with it. I drink 4 or 5 a day. This is the way I have done it for years. I am 59 years old, I do not have any health problems at all while about all of my friends co workers and family have all developed one or all of these diseases, arthritis, diabetes, fibromygia, high blood preassure and more. Some of these people are many years younger than me. I wonder is it the vinagar that keeps me off of all that medication?

Seriously, did you all not read how this page says there is no merit to this and that it doesn’t make you lose any weight? Why are you all taking it? It’s vinegar, why the hell would it make you lose weight? Are you all insane?

Here is the recipe to lose weight: eat less calories than you burn. THE END. It’s a math equation (unless you have some kind of medical condition or medication that affects your weight). It’s simple!

if anyone is acutally considering doing this PLEASE use a good quality apple cider vinegar!!!! I use Braggs organic apple cider vinegar which can be found easily in health food stores or in the organic section of your local grocery store, if you’re gonna do it, do it right! lol Heinz vinegar is too processed and all the good stuff is gone by the time it’s bottled. Good luck, i love my Braggs, i’ve been taking it for three years and honestly don’t see myself stopping.
