Apple Cider Vinegar Diet

Apple Cider Vinegar is a tonic made by fermenting the juice of an apple. The apple is crushed, and the juice is squeezed out. The fermentation process occurs when yeast and sugar are added to the juice. A second process involves adding certain bacteria’s to the juice which will then form an acetic acid.

Folk Remedy

Apple Cider Vinegar has been used for many hundreds of years as a health tonic. Purveyors of the tonic claim that it will cure migraine headaches, diabetes, chronic fatigue, arthritis, high blood pressure and many other ailments.

There are a large number of health food manufacturers who tout this vinegar as a “miracle” healer. The sad truth is that there is very little evidence to prove any of these anecdotal claims. A nutritional breakdown of Apple Cider Vinegar shows that it is actually quite “bland” – rather than being the nutritional “storehouse” that marketers claim.

Apple Cider for Weight Loss

apple-cider-vinegar-dietIn the 1950s a country doctor in Vermont (Dr. D. C. Jarvis) wrote a book (Folk Medicine) that set the stage for Apple Cider Vinegar as a weight loss agent. He claimed that regular consumption of the tonic would cause fat to be burned rather than stored. Others claim that the pectin in the vinegar will bind cholesterol and remove it from the body.

However it is all conjecture – this supplement is harmless but is unlikely to offer many health benefits – and will absolutely not cause weight loss.

What people call the Apple Cider Vinegar Diet is simply the act of consuming 1-3 teaspoons tonic before each meal in the hope of losing weight. There is very little (if any) evidence proving that this is effective.

I actually do a mixture of water, organic (Bragg’s) apple cider vinegar, organic black strap molasses, organic GRADE B (not grade A) honey, juice of half of an organic lemon, and a dash of organic cayenne powder every morning.. really gets things moving, and my energy level has gone from terrible to pretty awesome.. this drink may make you feel kind of gross in the beginning, but as you continue, you’ll feel great! I got most everything at Sunflower Market in AZ… the cayenne I purchased in bulk from Whole Foods.. -)

I honestly dont understand how anyone can drink that, regardless of the effects. I currently have a sinus infection and was recommended to try ACV to clear out my head. All of these people on there said they just took a tablespoon or 2 in a shot glass. I tried that, thinking it couldnt be thatt bad and I have never experienced anything like this in my life. I had nausea for hours, couldnt eat, and not to sound gross, but if I had to belch… lets just say it wasnt pleasant. No wonder you lose weight drinking that.

I tried it a few years ago by taking suppliments and it did not work at all. But every body is different; what didn’t work for me may work wonders for another person. What I’ve found that works best is the Mediterranean diet. My family is Italian, and I eat a mostly Mediterranean diet anyway. Its simple (limit red meat, lots of veggies, etc), and I don’t feel like I’m depriving myself. There is a link for it on the right side of this page, check it out.

My sister gave me a big bag of dill pickle chips left from a barbeque. Not wanting to waste food, I started eating a small bowlful with meals and just snacking on them. After about two weeks, my clothes became very loose. I was terrified that I had some form of disease so i went to the doctor. All tests were fine and I’m healthy. I’ve lost 9 pounds with no change whatsoever in my eating habits except the dill pickles. I eat balanced meals though. So i’m trying the acv (yellow) from the grocery store. I’m pouring it over the bland tomatoes I find in the store, eating them with meals.I couldn’t drink this stuff plain. I’ve lost 3 more pounds. My sister, come to find out, use to drink vinegar when mama was canning foods, and we used to call her skinny-minnie she was so thin, and the rest of us were all “healthy” as they called it. It must have been the vinegar. Do try it, it’s working for me when nothing else has.

If you do this “Apple Cider Vinegar Diet”, you have to buy the “Organic” type from a Health Food Store not the cider from the grocery store, unless they sell the “Braggs” brand. The othe cider is for salads and it can make you sick after using it for along period of time. Becareful. It’s better to use the “Agave Nector” instead of “Honey” & yes do use some water in it, I even add “Lemon Juice”.

It’s actually a very good thing to drink in general. I grew up having a norwegian mother and I had to choke down (just gagging remembering it!)cod oil every morning. She bought ‘cherry flavored’ but let’s face it: it’s gross.

My stepmom lost a lot of weight doing this diet the way Courtney Lyn does it. She went from a size 22 to a size 14 in like 3-4 months but she only uses organic apple cider.

I dont know whats going on but I have been taking it for about a week and have put on 5 lbs taking 3 tablespoons a day total with water. I think it might be making me retain water. I have big build and weigh 260. I need to find out more about this.

THINKING OF GIVING THE ACV DIET A TRY, BUT I NEED TO KNOW IF I DRINK THE MIX BEFORE I EAT A MEAL OR DRINK IT AS A MEAL REPLACEMENT.

  • July 11th, 2008Jimbo

What happens if you use regular ACV, not Organic?

  • July 5th, 2008rdb

I have researched this and decided this was for me,I take 3 tablespoons with a half glass of tap water 3 times daily.I am a big guy and weighed 320 after 3 week’s I weighed 303.This diet (if you want to call it that)is very easy to do.Give it a try,I’m glad I did!!!

  • June 29th, 2008Courtney Lyn

The writer of this article is very biased – it does work, as long as it is done right. And it’s not an excuse to just suck back some ACV and sit on your butt, waiting for a miracle! Of course a healthy diet and active lifestyle are always going to get you better results.

That being said, buy some liquid organic ACV (apple cider vinegar) – I prefer Bragg’s – it’s easily found in your local grocery store. Sometimes in the health food section. To make what is called an “ACV cocktail” just mix

    1-2 teaspoons of AVC,
    1 teaspoon of honey, and
    8 ounces of water

in a glass and drink it down with breakfast and dinner. It takes some getting used to but the honey sweetens it and I notice an energy buzz right away. It’s very important to mix it with the water though, as ACV is very acidic and might cause stomach upset without dilution.

ACV is great at flushing excess water and toxins out of the body and I guarantee you’ll notice less bloating and even glowing skin within a day or so. It will make you feel fuller faster, but I think it just makes the body run more efficiently. Give it a try and see if it works for you. I wouldn’t go a day without it. Good luck!!

i really want to lose weight but im not sure if any of these diets do work can someone give me advice please ?

  • June 16th, 2008Bel

It does work. I have lost over 14 pounds since April; it is now June. I take an ACV tablet after each meal.

  • June 15th, 2008jc

I am taking 6 tablespoons a day in liquid form and i would have to say that it’s decreasing my appetite-feeling full on less food, giving me energy and not making me crave junk food. It’s too soon to tell if there’s any weight loss but I think those things alone (decrease in appetite, energy and not craving junk food)do help with weight loss (80-90% of weight loss comes from calorie intake). I think there should be more studies done on how people have felt after taking it.
