3 Day Diet
The 3 Day Diet is one of the most popular short-term fad diets around today. Many people adopt the diet to try and achieve short-term weight loss. However, unfortunately most people simply gain the weight back on again.
The 3 Day Diet is simply a low calorie diet (as can be seen by the meal plan). There is nothing magical – no mystical chemical reaction that goes on (as some seem to think). Weight loss is due to a sudden drop in calories – some of this may be fat – but most will be from water loss.
3 Day Diet Meal Plan
This diet is not recommended and should never be used for more than 3 days. This kind of diet is often used by those who experience “yo-yo” weight – it is not a good habit to get into.

Condiments Allowed
- Lemon (and lots of it, if you like)
- a dash of salt and/or pepper

- cooking spray
Substitutions
Some people use the following substitutions for the 3 day diet:
- Orange instead of Grapefruit
- Tuna instead of Cottage cheese (and vice versa)
- Frozen yogurt instead of Ice Cream
- Cauliflower instead of Broccoli (and vice versa)
- Green beans instead of Broccoli or Cauliflower
- Beets instead of Carrots
- Toast instead of 5 crackers (vice versa)
Why not try the 100 Calorie Diet which is a healthier method of Calorie restriction.


First off I admit you will lose a few. I mean you are basically consuming 500 calories or so a day. The thing is though.. after the 3 days DO NOT do something stupid and go to McDonalds or binge on food because you will just end up gaining it back! Also keep in mind that this is water weight you are losing.
hi i am 20 and i just had a baby 8 months ago .i was 110 when i got pregnent an i had him when i was 7 months at 178. when i had him .now i am down to 136 an i started the diet today an want to know if it really works. i hope that it does
Im 37 ive been overweight most of my life.Didnt want to try any diets for fear of failing.I have 15yr son that has recieved trophys for best body. I seen him workingout made me think what kinda role model am I,had fatty liver,hip joints hurting all the time ankles couldnt walk long.So I tried the diet in 9weeks lost42 pounds kept it off next month it will be ayear.belive it or not my liver is fine now nomore aches and pains.It worked for me!(try diet rootbeer w/ice cream makes great flot w/out cheating It would get me through the day.
This diet works really well. On my first cycle I lost 7 pounds (now making me 143 pounds).
A lot of what you lose on this diet is water weight. But keep in mind you need to lose the water weight before you start to lose fat.
I’m at the end of my first day. I’m actually not so hungry. It’s not too bad. We’ll see at the end of tomorrow.
and i agree with Jam here…the 3day diet is a good start. when people see a difference,you tend to strengthen your will. at least it works for me!
am going to start this diet on Monday, already lost 13kilos so far,with a different diet.. healthier one i should say, but i cant seem to lose the last 5kilos! will let you know how it goes
I think this diet is ok for a few days if you are looking to lose a little before a special event. I have a wedding coming up and am trying to lose a few lbs. just to make my dress more comfortable. For those of you wanting to know if you can change up the food, I plan on doing just that, so I will let you know the results. I hate hotdogs AND tuna. I plan on replacing them with chicken or turkey breast. This morning I ate an apple w/ breakfast instead of grapefruit. I think it’s more the calories you are eating than some secret formula.. We will see!
I agree with what kerry said. To lose One pound of fat, you have to burn off about 3000 calories. If you lose lots of weight in 3 days, then unless you’ve been exercising like an athlete and taking in very little calories, then its not fat your losing its just water

Your story is similar to mine! I was overweight in 11th grade and over the summer before 12th, I did this diet all summer and lost 35 pounds! Start it soon, you won’t regret it when you see the results!

jeeeeeeez, does nobody listen?? Go on the diet for 3 days and i bet you all the money in the world you dont lose 10 pounds. You are all going to lose about 3 pounds, and thats 3 pound of mainly water!
i think diets are pointless unless you actually need them, im 13 years old and i probably know more abou this stuff then most of any of you writing about it, you guys need to stop worrying about your weight and what other people think about you, if you are not over weight then you dont needa diet! if you just think your fat then exercise! but dont use a diet cause you can hurt yourself, so all of you under weight girls need to just knock all of this crap off cause personally i think its pointless! thanx for your time, if you want to talk to me look me up on myspace yo!
The diet is great! Since Feb. 4th I have lost 46lbs. I stick to the diet and weight every morning. During the off days I watch what I eat very carefully. This is when you really learn how to eat. It is a very good tool for getting you started, but you must learn how to eat or you are doomed to gain the weight back.

Interesting stuff here. I actually love this diet. The best part is that you get to have ice cream at the end of the day. Unhealthy?? I’m not so sure about that. This contains more than enough protein to satisify the Canada Food Guide; fruit & veggies – contains 5 servings so it’s within the 5-9 suggested servings per day. The crackers/bread add the 2 recommended servings of carbs, and the ice cream adds the recommended dairy, which is also a low glycemic load. Please correct me if I’m wrong about this, but I don’t think it’s so unhealthy. I’d feel comfortable to add a couple of servings of low carb veggies and I think you’d still do fine on this diet. I usually find that I cannot finish the recommended dinner as it is a LOT of food. I’d encourage anyone to do this diet, it’s always worked for me when I need to lose weight quickly. I also know a guy whose doctor put him on this diet and he lost 60 lbs in three months. Though it’s a lot of weight, I think it’s better than carrying around the 60 lbs and his cholesterol was down by more than 50%.

just finished diet yesterday, feel alot better in myself, not so bloated, and hubby feels good to, am now sticking to healthy eating for next 4 days then will go on diet again next week.

I have been up and down on my weight ever since i was in middle school. With the rigorous courses i am taking in school right now i just have no time to eat right. I have family friends who have done this diet and it has worked! I am hoping to lose around 40 lbs. I would like to make a grand entrance for my senior year! Reading all of your comments gave me hope! Dont know when i am going to start it, probably in June when school lets out, but i plan on doing it, and excersizing on the off days! hey ppl… just wana no is it better to do it 3 days and 4 days off ? and you sure it like 1 cup for almost all the veggies for day 1 and 3 ? cos my friend gave me the same menu but the portion for the verggies for day 1 and 3 are halfed !! so please please tell me !!!
This is my 2nd day and ive already lost 2 pounds. I have found this diet really easy and have not felt hungry or ill at all! if this diet is followed correctly there is no reason that you wont lose weight… Also try eating cracker bread crackers instead of saltine crackers as these help you feel fuller for longer!! I have been doing this diet for almost 1 month now and i have lost 8lbs (half a stone) i feel great my skin looks healthier. I’m not big to start with but i want to trim up for my summer holidays so this is a great way to do it, i’m sure the weight will stay off as long as i eat well inbetween and after the diet, i intnd to do this diet for another 5/6 weeks then hopefully will be a good healthy weight.

When it says 3oz of any lean meat. Im not exactly sure what 3oz would be..like as little as your palm? im not too smart with that type of stuff..1/2 cups & 1 cup i can do..but oz..Not really
I want to try this diet for myself. i really wanna see how good it is. Majority of the comments seem to be good. Tomorrow i am going to buy the food needed and then try it on thursday. I hear all these success stories from people who went frm size 18 to 11, that is wonderful because i am a size 15/16 & my goal size to be is a 9/10. If others can do it and are bigger than me then i know i can def. do it. I will be working out also, i go to the gym 3times a week already. I will report back on thurs when i start. Well I’m on Day 2.. I don’t know if its working or not, unfortunately my scale is not functioning right now so I cant weigh myself.. However I do feel a little better about my weight but I think its more psychological than anything… I did however have to eat a half of grapefruit this morning instead of a half of banana.. i don’t know how bad that is for this strict diet.. and I’m also eating breakfast kinda late and lunch about 2 to 3 hours after and dinner much later in the day.. so I don’t know if I’m following it as strict as I should be.. I do have a question for all you experienced 3-day dieters though… I know the rumor is you’re supposed to lose 10 pounds a week but do you notice differences right away or what? How long does it take to lose tummy fat and all that other good stuff? I’m a size 9 right now and I just want to know how long it’s going to take to fit into a size 3 pants.

This is the only diet I could stick to in college and it really does work. You have to be sure not to binge eat the other days and you will lose the weight and keep it off. You will not starve, but yes, you will be hungry if you’re used to eating a lot. Some people fast to cleanse their body for more than 3 days. Not the end of the world unless you are obsese or unhealthy. DRINK LOTS OF WATER!
I’ll be starting the diet today as well. I hear it’s a lot of food to eat. So starving yourself wouldn’t be a problem, it’s just forcing yourself to eat those type of foods when you don’t usually do, like i do. I guess i’ll keep you guys updated after my first week to let you if it really works or not.
P.S.
I also agree, to keep the weight off… you still have to keep a calorie count of what you’re eating to keep the weight off. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

Everyone also try the british heart foundation diet its even better i think i lost a stone in 3 days.
Yes this diet does work, i have tried it and i lost 9lbs its great now what i do is do the three day diet wait a week and do it again continuous and you have to eat healthy in the week your not on the diet and Penelope you can substitue banana’s for any other fruit because banana’s are the most unhealthy fruit.
