3 Day Diet

The 3 Day Diet is one of the most popular short-term fad diets around today. Many people adopt the diet to try and achieve short-term weight loss. However, unfortunately most people simply gain the weight back on again.

The 3 Day Diet is simply a low calorie diet (as can be seen by the meal plan). There is nothing magical – no mystical chemical reaction that goes on (as some seem to think). Weight loss is due to a sudden drop in calories – some of this may be fat – but most will be from water loss.

3 Day Diet Meal Plan

This diet is not recommended and should never be used for more than 3 days. This kind of diet is often used by those who experience “yo-yo” weight – it is not a good habit to get into.

DAY 1
Breakfast Lunch Dinner
Black coffee or tea (Sweet & Low or Equal) or water
1/2 Grapefruit or Juice
1 slice toast with 1 Tbsp. Peanut Butter
1/2 Cup of Tuna
1 slice toast
Black coffee or tea (Sweet & Low or Equal) or water
3 oz. any lean meat
1 cup green beans
1 cup carrots
1 cup vanilla ice cream
1 medium apple
Black coffee or tea (Sweet & Low or Equal) or water
DAY 2
Breakfast Lunch Dinner
Black coffee or tea (Sweet & Low or Equal) or water
1 egg (any style)
1 slice toast
1 banana
1 cup cottage cheese or tuna
5 saltine crackers
Black coffee or tea (Sweet & Low or Equal) or water
2 beef franks or hot dogs
1/2 cup carrots
1 banana
1 cup broccoli or cabbage
1/2 cup vanilla ice cream
Black coffee or tea (Sweet & Low or Equal) or water
DAY 3
Breakfast Lunch Dinner
Black coffee or tea (Sweet & Low or Equal) or water
5 regular saltine crackers
1 oz.(slice) cheddar cheese
1 apple
1 hard boiled egg
1 slice toast
Black coffee or tea (Sweet & Low or Equal) or water
1 cup tuna
1 cup carrots
1 cup cauliflower
1 cup melon
1/2 cup regular vanilla ice cream
Black coffee or tea (Sweet & Low or Equal) or water

Condiments Allowed

  • Lemon (and lots of it, if you like)
  • a dash of salt and/or pepper
  • mustard
  • cooking spray

Substitutions

Some people use the following substitutions for the 3 day diet:

  • Orange instead of Grapefruit
  • Tuna instead of Cottage cheese (and vice versa)
  • Frozen yogurt instead of Ice Cream
  • Cauliflower instead of Broccoli (and vice versa)
  • Green beans instead of Broccoli or Cauliflower
  • Beets instead of Carrots
  • Toast instead of 5 crackers (vice versa)

Why not try the 100 Calorie Diet which is a healthier method of Calorie restriction.

    I almost died from this diet, and am still very sick two weeks later. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!! DO NOT DO THIS DIET! DO NOT DO THIS DIET!

    You will take the weight off then put twice as much back on because you starved your body. So it holds on to everything you eat because your body is afraid you will starve it again.

    I still feel so terrible!

    For me, the 3-day diet is working. I have lost 7 pounds in 3 days. It makes me conscious of all the extra calories that I put into my mouth….like tasting food when preparing it and the in between snacking. It all adds up. Of course on the off days, you would want to continue to eat healthy and exercise, that is common sense. Fad diet or not, it still makes you aware of everything including recognizing when you stomach is full. I will continue with this.

    Okay so i am on my first day and i just had breakfast. I dont get why they have ice cream in there though. So I am gonna ask my mom to take me to the store to get vanilla ice cream and those saltine crackers and some more tuna and or cottage cheese. the cool thing is i like everything on here. And i really want to lose weight! I am only 13 and my whole WORLD revolves around my weight! but how many days do you take off inbetween please answer! i want to wear a bikini for he summer. wish me luck!

    To Scard: Ok first of all I am devastated that your gym teacher told you to lose weight! You should report him/her to the principal. You do not want to get into the habit of being on a diet at your age. You can be beautiful at any size. Live your life and have fun! Don’t worry about your weight or what some ignorant teacher said to you!

    do u have to eat REGULAR ICE CREAM or LOWFAT SUGAR FREE ICE CREAM??i did this diet before but on my 3rd day i forgot my lunch at home and when i went to school and i ate school lunch and broke it =[.i was soo mad cus i suffered for all those days for no reason!and i ate fat free,sugar free icecream instad of regular.im gonna start again next week after passover ends...bikini season is coming up ladiess,gotta look good ;]

    I havent done this myself.. BUT! I did give it to my sister.. she went thru with it for 3 days she lost the 10 lbs and as the weeks went on she kept losing the weight. She now is 55 lbs thinner. So YES!!! This diet works.. It curves your hunger.. and slowly you loose the weight. After seeing the results on my sister I will try it..

    this diet does work but then it up 2 u if u keep the waight off. if u wanna lose weight u will stop moaning and do it. if every 1 dieted as much as the moan they wuld be tiny lol.ive tried it and it fine.the only person ur leting down is urself if u dnt.and when i mean tiny i mean a nice tidy not a size zero

    HEY,GUYS I’AM STARING THE DIET TOMORROW I’VE TRIED SOME OTHER DIETS. LIKE THE SOUP DIET THAT WORK BUT,I GOT TRIED OF EATING SOUP FOR SEVEN DAYS.     At 53 years old nothing has worked like the 3 day diet. I lost 6lbs. the first round and 4 more the next. If you eat sensibly in between and take a week or so off you can drop a few more every time!

    I did this diet a year ago before prom and it sure worked! I lost 6-7 pounds the first three days, which was the week before prom. It’s a neat lil quick fix to look better in my prom dress! I started this diet again; today is the third day, but I didn’t lose as much weight. It’s a good jump start to eating better though : )

    I have done this diet before leaving on vacation and enjoyed the results. This diet is base on a chemical breakdown. I lost 40 pounds in 1 month. you stand correct in saying the menu is not all that however who cares I was able to fit into a size 11. I was a size 18 yikes!I will be starting up next week anuyone intersted in starting with me??

    i could not resist hopping on the scales this morning, i have lost 3 lbs yipee, i am half way though day 3 now, and it has got easier, day 1 i found hard, that cos i love my food lol, i will try the scales again in the morning and see if any more weight has dropped off.

    I have now finished day 2 of this diet, i have found the hunger pangs kick in about 2 or 3 o’clock, so i have had to drink a large glass of water or blk coffee which takes it off till dinner time, i will not be jumping on the scales until the morning of day 4 thou, i will let you know if i have lost any pounds, just 1 day to go yipeee, then onto healthy eatting for the other 4 days.

    I thought that the 3-Day Diet was only designed for people who had alot of weight to lose prior to surgery? I hear that sticking to this diet that a person is supposed to take off around 40lbs of solid fat within one month?
