18 Pounds in 4 Days

Background

18 pounds in 4 days is a weight loss program that was created by James Zeta. In his search for the solution to his own weight loss concerns he states that he discovered a special combination of foods that enabled him to lose weight rapidly.

Zeta claims that his program can show dieters how to lose weight and even up to 18 pounds in 4 days. He says that he managed to lose 20 pounds in less than a week simply by following the principles outlined in his plan.

There are two parts to the program. The first part is the diet and the second part concentrates on maintaining the weight loss.

Diet Basics

18-pounds-in-4-daysThis diet aspect of the plan is a four-day calorie restricted diet, which is based around mainly vegetables with lean proteins and small amounts of fruits.

He advertises his program as not requiring any special foods, but rather as involving specific combinations of regular foods that supposedly jump starts the weight loss process.

Zeta asserts that there is no need for supplements, meal replacements, or exercise in order to achieve rapid weight loss.

He provides a detailed outline of what dieters should do for the first four days of his program along with a complete meal plan. He then offers tips to dieters that will help them to keep the weight loss in the long term.

Breakfast every day includes half a grapefruit and the rest of the diet is centered on vegetables with some eggs, chicken and meat.

Recommended Foods

Vegetables including butternut squash and green beans, beef, chicken, eggs and small amounts of fruit including grapefruit.

Recipe ideas can be found here.

Exercise Recommendations

Dieters are forbidden to exercise during the four-day program but exercise after is fine. He states that his clients actually achieve better results when they don’t exercise.

Costs and Expenses

The program costs $27 and payments are accepted via Pay Pal.

Pros

  • Includes a detailed 4-day meal plan.
  • Appeals to those who want to lose weight fast for a special event.
  • Rapid weight loss may increase motivation to stick with a longer-term approach to weight management.
  • Offers suggestions to help with maintaining weight loss.

Cons

  • Most dieters will experience fatigue and hunger on such a low calorie diet.
  • Gives dieters unrealistic expectations in terms of weight loss.
  • Majority of weight loss will be water rather than fat.
  • Any weight lost is likely to be regained as soon as normal eating is resumed.
  • No scientific evidence is offered in order to support his claims.
  • Most of the support for the diet is in the form of testimonials.
  • Author of the diet has no nutrition or health credentials.
  • Expensive for a short program.
  • There are some reports of failure of the author to follow through with the money back guarantee.

Conclusions

Even if it were possible to lose 18 pounds in 4 days, it is certainly not a healthy approach to weight loss. If dieters experience any significant results on this program this will be largely attributed to water rather than true fat loss.

Zeta is encouraging a quick fix mentality that will ultimately leave dieters feeling discouraged when the desired results are not achieved. In addition his lack of credentials and the various reports of his failure to honor the money back guarantee brings his credibility and that of his diet into question.

Why not try 28 pounds in 28 days which is a healthier, more realistic option.

  • Hey, guys! I am a nutritionist whose job it is to debunk “programs” like these, and I just want to warn all of you that this plan is complete bologna! I personally have not tried it, but I hope you can trust my word as I swear to you that diet and weight loss is my base of knowledge.

Maybe James Zeta really did lose 18 pounds in 4 days. In fact, I don’t doubt that at all. The thing is if you are, say, 250 lbs or more and you drastically change your diet, you are going to lose numbers that look phenomenal no matter what exactly you are eating. It’s natural. You shouldn’t spend $30 to have a non-professional prove to you laws of nature.

Anyway, bottom line: diet and exercise are always the way to go. Remember the weight you put on didn’t show up in a week; it won’t go away in a week either! But if you absolutely MUST have some sort of guidance I would recommend going for a plan like the SoBe diet.It works relatively fast and is created to ensure permanent weight loss (so long as you stick to it).

  • I look at these negative posts and skeptical reviews, and I can’t help but smile at it all. I’ve done 18 in 4, 4 times now and lost over 30 pounds. And guess what, the weight did not come back, why? because the weight loss I achieved helped transition me into a much more positive and disciplined lifestyle. Say what you want about it, make your negative comments, but in the end of it you have no right to judge the diet unless you have physically tried it. Yes it is very strict, and yes you do reduce your caloric intake by a bit, but hence why you should not exercise during the 4 day period. The foods you are eating are doing the work for you technically, as any rigorous exercise will burn off those calories and cause your body to go into instant starvation mode. Anyways I’ve done the program and got what I needed from it, so best of luck to those that do give it a try

  • I am 60 yrs old and weigh 270lbs. I work out all the time weights swimming and judo so in pretty good shape and built big arms and shouldhers but wanted to lose weight. I am in my first week fourth day of the prgram with my wife. We both feel very hungry, but seem to have increased energy, sleeping good and I have lost in first three days 7 lbs and my wife 6 lbs. By the fourth day this evening I will probably have lost 7-8 lbs in 4 days and my wife a little less. Based on my sports medicine background its not a bad diet p[retty healthy combinations but there is no way you will lose 18 lbs in 4 days nor should you want to. If we can continue to lose 5-6 lbs per week and not put it back on in the 3 days not on the diet this will work but the lost is not as fast as advertised .. my friend on this diet in 6 week period has lost approx 32 lbs so about 5 lbs per week and feeling good…My goal is to saty on this until the end of the year and at 5 lbs loss a week and even if I gain a few the other three days will be a overall loss in three months of 30-40 lbs and thats good…don’t expect 18 lbs but maybe 5-8 lbs but then you can NOT pig out the other three days eat sensibly…

  • Monday and back on the diet for the next 4 days…I gained back a few lbs the last three days but today losing moire weight again ..I am winning in thr weight lost column..lost the weight I gained in last 3 days today and now for more weight loss the enst few days …not as hungry as I was last week no headaches or pain and lots of energy this might be working … my wife loves it …

    by William on 10/12/09
  • Its now end of the second week my wife and I are down a total of 8-9 lbs for the two week period. We are not as hungry as the first week probably because our stomachs have shrunk. We have not lost close to the weight promised by this diet which is a tough one but we have lost lbs now both week…we have altered our goals for the month and hope we achieve at least 20 lbs by the fourth week and we think we can.. so we are half way and just under our goal of 10 lbs for first two weeks … again we hope for 20 lbs in total of 4 weeks and thats a good weight loss…

  • Just did the 18 in 4 day diet this week. I lost the 18 pounds. Yes, I did get hungry but, this diet works and I cheated on one day but, still lost the weight. I have 50 more pounds to loose and I plan on doing it this week also. My plan is to do it every other week until I get down to goal weight. If any one needs help let me know!!!

  • I spoke this AM with a real great DR a specialist in weight reduction and he told me as I have said no way 18 lbs in 4 days even if you were eating nothing…so when I hear someone say that well … may not be the whole truth nothing but the truth… I am now in my third week and this weekend I went back to my old eating habits but didn’t gain the weight back…so as of today now down approx 15 lbs thats 15 in three weeks…and thats a good weight loss…

    by William on 10/19/09
  • Gained a few lbs back but overall now down 14 lbs at eh beginning of a new diet week … if you want steady decrease like I said before approx 5 lbs total a week including the three days you can eat anything this is the diet but you will need to stay on the 4 day diet for a month or so depending on your goals … My wife still loves it and she is down 15 lbs and we are both staying on it for next few weeks…6-8 weeks and hopefully at that time I will have lost at least 20-25 lbs…its probably a little harder for me to lose since I was very active physicaly with workouts and have had to cut back on workout load due to this diet..

  • So, really very skeptical….have spent way to much money on weight loss stuff. Not to mention I do not eat fish, eggs, or mayo……anyone know if these things are a MUST on this diet?

  • I purchased the program almost 2 years ago. Although I did not lose the “18″ lbs as stated, I lost 11….and continued to follow it for 4 more rounds, and I lost about 35lbs…Now I have to do it all over again because I had another baby, but I am confident it will help me get back to my prepregnancy weight quickly.
It is somewhat of a hard diet to follow if you are a junk food addict like me, but after a few weeks, it changes your mind set, and eventually you would rather have a salad then a burger!! I LOVED IT…trust me, I was very skeptical about it, and now I am glad i didnt listen to the negative feed backs. Everyone is different, it will make everyones body react a different way.

  • This is a TOTAl SCAM. There’s NO way you can lose 18 pounds in 4 days; it’s just simply impossible. Have common sense and do the math. The most reasonable pounds you can lose would be 2-3 or probably more if you’re lucky enough. After reading all these comments, which by the way are overall negative ones, this plan is just a plain SCAM.

    by kiki on 12/25/09
  • someone post the diet! if you paid for it and you think it’s a scam post it. If he won’t give you your money back. Post it. Remember the forward about the department store that charged a women 200.00 or something like that for a recipe…she posted it! Scam the scammer!!!

Thank you for understanding. If you can’t afford this plan there are many free plans available and are actually a healthier option.

  • I’ve read all of this blog back to the beginning. I think I’m going to try it. I’m going to weigh tomorrow and this weekend clean out my cabinets and buy the food. The only thing I’m going to add is using Sensa (from Oprah show). It works, supresses appetite gently. I believe with them together, I should get through 4 days. Also, my new message therapist told me if I drank my weight in water per day, even doing nothing else, I would lose around 5 lbs in a week. I did up my water and began doing organic flushes and eating organic around 8 years ago and lost 156 lbs without even noticing it. I started out at 486 (I know I weighed 500, no documentation)and in January 2009 weighed 324. But when I noticed how thin my neck and arms were (I wasn’t exercising) I got scared and STUPIDLY started eating wrong. I gained 50 lbs in 6 months. So I’ve got to get back in the game. I want to do it right this time. I can actually see my weight difference. I couldn’t before. Being over 350 for 20 years makes the eyes see what they want.

So…..I’m going to see what this 18 in 4 is all about. Hey, 10 in 4 would be fine with me, but I’m going to stick to the program with my Sensa each meal and 3 gals of water per day.

    Here’s hoping.

PS. I’m glad to see all of the responses. They all help in their own way.

  • I weighed yesterday. 386 lbs!!! Noooooo!! Well, I start on Monday. I’ll fill you in as I go.

  • I think its not only water loss, this diet is activating your metabolism as well, so you burn more than when you’re simply starving for 4 days, which I did before. I think your body starting to burn more than you consume plus water loss as well. Of course, nothing is miraculous, if you are not supporting yourself after that not to eat the same way as before. The important thing for me is you loose more than you are simply starving, and after that you are on your own. Just try to maintain properly after that with exercise etc.

  • Can someone share the diet with me who has already been on it??

    by Cris on 2/15/10
  • Cris- If you read through the comments, people have already shared their experience with this plan.

    by ted on 2/15/10
  • hi there, ive just started this diet today and thought i would share with those who are considering it also. I looked at many weight forums prior to starting and was very sceptical of all the weight loss stories as they all said they lost a lot…not sure whether these where true testimonies or like others had suggested people promoting the diet i decided to give it a go myself!its the end of day one and so far it has been ok meals are a little boring but actually not that bad…i do have to say though i have cheated already (not a good sign) but i only ate another apple instead of 1 hopefully this wont make a huge differnce! I have not suffered the low energy levels some others have said to have experienced however it is a sunday and so has been a very lazy day, i expect to notice tomorrow when work starts again!i will check in every day for the next 4 days and let you know how i get on …hopefully this will help others to decide if this is the diet for them.
