Study Says Eating Fat Won’t Make You Fat
Keeping a healthy weight over time might not mean obsessing about fat.
Writing in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, experts found the amount of fat people ate didn’t effect their weight.
For the study, researchers examined data on 90,000 men and women from Europe, following them for up to 10 years.
Findings revealed consumption of fat had no relationship to how much weight people gained every year, even saturated fat.
Average fat intake ranged between 31.5% and 36.5% of total calories, with participants gaining roughly a quarter of a pound every year.
But researchers warn this is not an excuse to pig out on fat. Instead, people should focus on eating a balanced diet and exercise, rather than just avoiding fat.
